This community is dedicated to parents, siblings, grandparents, other relatives and friends of someone who is either gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning their sexual orientation. The purpose of this community is to help families and friendships grow and maintain positive relationships with gay sons, daughters, family or friends.
Hi. My brother is gay. He finally told us 6 years ago, but was struggling with it for a long time. He is now married to his partner. Just wanted to meet some others, so that I know that I am not in this alone.
It bugs me when I am in regular places and people talk so badly about gays and lesbians. I used to think that homophobics were just people that disagreed with the lifestyle, but it goes much deeper than that. It also seems like they think they can be "contaminated" just being around gays. I just can't pipe up and say, "you're talking about my brother!"
There are others that talk like it is the "worst sin". It is in a category by itself. I cannot find a Bible reference for this.

As to bible reference, there is a wonderful book entiltled Coming Out to Your Parents which has a long chapter about the bilbe. The chapter is written for parents/family members who struggle with gay issues as related to their religious upbringing.
You get a big hug for being so supportive of your brother. I am sure it means the world to him.
Hate and bigotry are so toxic and disturbing---mostly driven by fear, I think.
Here is a book that you might find helpful when dealing with the people who use the Bible to justify their hatred and mistreatment of others.
