This poem was emailed by one of the members of the Nar-Anon group I attend weekly:

I am the Mother of an Addict
This is not like being the mother of a child with cancer, diabetes, or aids
This is not like being the mother of a child who is serving with honor in a foreign land
This is not like being the mother of a child who lives no more and is mourned by all

I am the Mother of an Addict
There are no marathons or fund raisers for this disease, no sweet girls selling cookies
There are no flags flying, or bumper stickers to proudly acknowledge my childs deeds
There are only tears and silent screams, what terror will the next knock or phone call bring

I am the Mother of an Addict
I see my child and I am not glad, for though I ache to save him, with relief I let him go
I see my child with fear and suspicion, as I hear all he says and I can but endlessly hope
I see my child and wonder will I ever know him again, hold him again . . . see him again

My heart goes out to you.. I will keep you in my prayers, I can never imagine how you feel. I am a spouse of an addict and that is hard never would know how to handle the loose of your child.

Stay in touch and just list when they want to talk that is all you can do for them. They have to want to change, we cannot change them.

I just reposted this poem on my facebook page because although Justin is in recovery today I will never ever forget feeling this way myself and we all know how fast things can change. Hang in there and don't give up your hope....

I'm the mother of two addicts so wiping away the tears.Nobody that hasn't experienced this journey can understand the pain we endure. My heart and prayers to all of us, that our kids make it home safe, and in recovery. For me it was facing the reality of the last sentence, he just went home to a different place, and is free of the bondage of this ugly disease.I continue to hope my daughter will be freed from the bondage of being an addict. If you still have your child please continue to love them, hate the addiction. Prayers for all of us!

My babygirl is a recovering addict and now expecting her first child, this poem hits home, because I am the mother of (hopefully) a recovering addict.
I am still on guard because of her addiction, and wonder if she is still using.
I remember wondering if I would ever see my innocent girl again.

Babyrena, hopefully her ob drug tests & if she is using will confront her & try to help her. My daughter's ob tested & knew but offered no resources or help whatsoever. They just sat back & waited for his birth, tested him, & then called social services to the hosp. I think all ob offices should have referral services for addicted mothers, ESPECIALLY when they test positive but deny drug use.
