This poem was emailed by one of the members of the Nar-Anon group I attend weekly:

I am the Mother of an Addict
This is not like being the mother of a child with cancer, diabetes, or aids
This is not like being the mother of a child who is serving with honor in a foreign land
This is not like being the mother of a child who lives no more and is mourned by all

I am the Mother of an Addict
There are no marathons or fund raisers for this disease, no sweet girls selling cookies
There are no flags flying, or bumper stickers to proudly acknowledge my childs deeds
There are only tears and silent screams, what terror will the next knock or phone call bring

I am the Mother of an Addict
I see my child and I am not glad, for though I ache to save him, with relief I let him go
I see my child with fear and suspicion, as I hear all he says and I can but endlessly hope
I see my child and wonder will I ever know him again, hold him again . . . see him again

Oh man Bean! I am totally in tears here...this is so our life right now... Especially the last part... S has not been home (except for 2 nights) since Feb 14. He knows there are 2 warrants for him, and I have asked him via text to turn himself in... I wonder what will become of my son... Keeping all of us moms (and dads) in prayer

you should have put 'TISSUE ALERT' at the beginning.....wow...that is my life, I don't see my son the same as I use to, sadly. I use to be so in awe of that child, now I just have anger and suspicion at every turn. I use to be SO proud of him when he was in the Navy, now I am only in shame and pain.

Hoping for sunny days, It sounds like we have the same son. Mine is my oldest of three. I had so much hope for his future, he was always so bright, alert and intelligent. Where did that person go? Better yet, will he ever come back? I miss him so much and worry he will never recover.
Good Luck to us all. All we can do is pray.

I cried so hard when I read this. Hit home for moms or dads. It is now my fav poem. Hugs to everyone out there in our shoes, no one understands until you are in our shoes. Trust me I was so judgemental it was crazy

Absolutely can relate to this. So sad and so true. Prayers to all my dear friends out there waiting for the return of their son or daughter.

I wait because I have Hope - I have Hope because God is faithful to those who put their trust in Him...
