Ok, so my sister just went to federal prison. And I had to have a meeting with her parole officer, so that they could determine what sort of support system she has, and where to place her in the province. She is currently 10 hours away, and hoping to be transferred to a prison thats only an hour away.
Here's my question.
The officer told me about his house, on prison grounds, where you would come and stay. And the prisoner(my sister) would stay with you in it. Guards would come and check in at scheduled times. If there were any medications they would take them, lock them in a safe, and distribute them as needed. We would eat there, sleep there. And anything I brought for my 6 month old daughter had to be listed, and then it would be searched, her formula sifted through.
I had to fill out a form and the parole officer had to take my photo.
Has anyone ever done anything like this??? Is it even a good idea to take a child there? The officer told me that we would have no contact with the other prisoners. But I don't want to damage my daughter. And as silly as it sounds, movies make prisons look terrifying...I'm scared to go!
I would just like some input from people who have been in these houses, so I know what to expect if I decide to go.

my sister may be going into a facility that specializes in women with a drug problem. so there will be people that are suffering severe withdrawls, and others who still have it in their system. thats what im mostly worried about. i know how crazy my sister got right before she got clean.
