Long story. My addict sisters now ex addict boyfriends son came to live with us four months ago. The deal was it was meant to be no more then three months while he completed all that was required by CPS to get his son back. After no more then two weeks it became apparent the goal was not going to be met....his 'slight' addiction to weed surfaced as a deep addiction to meth.

So began the back and forth with him, CPS, us and the police. He was all over the place. We had no legal rights to him as he hadn't technically been apprehended by CPS, it was an arrangement we made instead. So whenever the dad showed up, unless I had physical proof he was high, I HAD to let him take his son for visitation. It was gut wrenching letting that four year old boy get in a van and not knowing if he would be safe.

On Monday the dad was arrested for the second assault charge in a month. He handcuffed and beat his girlfriend in front of her 5 year old son. He will be in jail until at least Monday. Tuesday we have court to make me a legal guardian of his son as CPS formally apprehended his son the day he was arrested.

Now I'm so overwhelmed with paperwork, what's going to happen with the dad when he gets out, booking appointments, dealing with the boys possible delays that his dad wouldn't deal with before, and all of that. But I'm so relieved that I can now deny the dad visitation if he ever gets out of jail and completes what he needs to to get out of supervised visitation. I can register the boy for school, sign him up for a sport. So many things I had to wait and hope that the dad did before.

I never thought I'd be here again. When I was 21 CPS apprehended my sister's kids and I became a guardian of one of them. She is 19 now. And here I am raising another addicts child at 29. I'm sure this board is going to come in hand in the next few months when the dad gets out of prison and I need to deal with him!
