I had put in my mind years ago that our sons' heroin addiction would end one of two ways 1.) he would seek the help he needed and DO it completely (many stints in rehab, maybe 8 or 10 prior) 2.) he would die of an overdose.
So in my own head, I had prepared myself for the latter of the two. To accept it. Sadly. I became cold to everything around me, not just my son, but anyone in my life or situations in my life. The numbing effect.
Long story short, it is normal, it is sad but do NOT feel there is anything wrong with you. You are in 'survival mode'.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Be gentle on yourself, don't beat yourself up for your feelings, they are YOUR feelings and real and validated. And know that you are NOT alone in these feelings! Be good to YOU!
