I just spent a few hours visiting my son at his rehab. This isn't our first run at it. But it's different. All the other times I forced him and he always left. This time he's doing it.
I have to say he looks wonderful. Healthy...working out in the gym everyday...tan. Smiling. I cant remember the last time I saw him smile. Or the last time I got a good hug.
We visited for awhile and went off to family group together. Everyone sat around with an excellent social worker. She asked some really great questions that got us talking. My son was never one for a lot of words. But tonight he spoke. Just hearing him participating brought such hope.
One woman said that she prayed so hard that if her son couldn't get better and would always be in pain let God take him. I saw the look on my sons face. He turned red and calmly said...that's a very selfish statement. I would be so upset if I knew that's how my mom felt. There's always hope. Without that from my mom I wouldn't be sitting here. And we all have our own feelings when it comes to addiction. There were days I didn't know how I would survive the pain watching what he was doing. I told him that there were days I prayed for God to take me and spare him.
I told him I was taking a vacation alone in a couple of weeks to another country to relax. I need it so badly. He held my hand and says Mom please keep your phone on. I will need to call to be sure you are safe. I'm worried. He's worried!!! Imagine that. I love that boy more then words. And tonight I got a glimpse of the son I knew before heroin. I pray to see more of him everyday.
I'm going to sleep a little better tonight.
I just really want to say to those who have children be hard on them. Use the police and the courts. Make noise with them and be heard. Don't take no for an answer. And stop being afraid your child will be angry at you. Don't question if having them arrested is the right
Thing. And Please Never give up hope. Keep praying. We can pray together
Some small steps again today.

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

The things you heard other families say? When we heard some of those kinds of things, we were shocked, and amazed, and saddened. The family next to us told their son that they didn't think he could do it....my husband and I went up to him at the break and we told him that WE believed he could do it. We were so heartbroken with the dysfunction there...One family was removed during our session...the cost her...she didn't mean stealing credit cards or pawning goods...she brought a list from the DAY HE WAS BORN for diapers, up till now...She was crazy.
I guess it made me feel like maybe our family was OK compared to them.
Where there is life, there is hope.
I am so glad you got to share such tenderness with your boy.
A lady came with a list of what her son had cost her....
I always think everyone is entitled to their opinion...especially when it comes to their kids.
It actually also amazed me that one father came and sat next to his kid that was quite obviously working his program and slept thru group. Now that's support.
I was stunned at what she said. Honestly why have kids if you have to tally up what they cost you or how you pray they die if they are in pain from drugs. She compared it to watching your kid die from cancer. I fail to see the comparison if you have terminal cancer and drugs you can commit to quitting.
I can related that I felt OK too compared to some. But I know we aren't. I have hope because he shared what scares him when he does come home. And now we can work on that together. Learning to communicate instead of yelling and blaming. I must admit we also share some laughs too about all this.
I woke up this morning and I do this gratitude thing....I say all the things I am grateful for. I never did that before...I always reflected on the negative. And it dawned on me that HOPE wasn't the word I
always had...it was FAITH. I know thru all of what I personally lived thru its the one thing I never lost.
So keep the FAITH
Hugs,
Pat
We will pray for a complete recovery.
