I was on my way out the door tonight to attend my weekly Bible Study at a friend's house when my son called. He sounded sober but he asked if he could come spend the night. He said he and his girlfriend were not getting along with each other and they needed a break from each other. I don't know what came over me, but I told him no. I told him I was not comfortable with him coming in and out of my house, going to his friend's house, smoking pot and coming back stoned. I also told him he has not attended one meeting since signing himself out of treatment a week ago. I told him he could not use my house as a safety net because he screwed things up at home. This all came out without a second thought and he said wait, I didn't screw things up at home, and then he said he had to go and hung up. It upset me all evening as I usually don't snap at him like that, but I was being honest. He has friends around our neighborhood and when he comes over here, I might not see him for a day or two, and then I worry. He has a nine year old son that worships him. You can't just take a vacation from being a father because you can't get along. It might not be his fault, his girlfriend might have done something, I don't know. I did text him after church and let him know I was sorry for assuming the rift was his fault but I was just being honest about his behavior at my house and how it makes me feel. If he was attending meetings I might have felt differently.
