While I really appreciate everyone's support...I think I'm taking myself off this site.

Ive been around addiction a long long time. In the the 21 years I've learned from some amazing people that I've respected a great deal. Some not so much. I think in the beginning of my sons addictions there were counselors who told me how it is. At the time those were the ones I hated and wanted to go away. They made me have to face things I didn't want to see. Looking back now I'm grateful for them and owe them a great deal. But there really isn't a way to pay them back for what they gave to me. The only way I felt was to try and give back. I'm not so sure this is the venue for me giving back.

i know we all have our perspective and opinions. I respect that.

I pray for every addict and their loved ones that struggle and have been thru the pain my family has experienced. I just think I'm not the person who is going to ever be the person who says what you want to hear. I'm the person who says what you need to hear. As painful as it is to hear addiction changes us.

Aw Givenup107, I wish you would have said something, not at all, I never take anything you said wrong. I know your intentions were coming from experience. You have dealt with this for a long time, I'm just now opening my eyes to it.

But to tell you the truth, I have decided to have him come back home, he is in rehab now, and I'm gonna try again. I will keep you posted, I know a lot of people will think I'm crazy, but it's the last time for me.

I'm not around a lot and don't know you but I would like to add my 2 cents. Support comes in all shapes and sizes. If your blunt and harsh in your approach that doesn't negate your intentions.

Some people may not respond well from that style while others need that. If being on the boards triggers negative emotions for you, then I would consider taking a break. Otherwise stick around and offer what you have in the manner in which you have it. As far as I'm concerned, variety is the spice of life.

givenup107, one thing I've learned from someone on here whom helped me at my lowest point was say what you mean and mean what you say. I would rather have someone be honest, open and not worry about coddling....nothing in this realm of addiction is easy. The hills and valleys take a toll on us all. And EVERY situation is different, people are not cookie cutters, we can only tell our experiences, what we did, and if advice is seeked, to put our own experiences out there. Doesn't mean it is the 'right way' or good for another...just an experience. I'm glad you decided to stay here.....And that person who helped me was direct, and although it was painful at times to realize how 'blind' I was being, I appreciated it more than she will EVER know. It made me stronger, able to deal with this unwanted ride. So be YOU....the YOU that makes YOU special, caring, compassionate.....do it YOUR way...love with all your heart and NEVER NEVER give up.....although never giving up can be painful and bring us tears, it builds strength at the same time, so I've noticed in myself. Facing reality sure does suck, but at the same time....it's HONESTY that is most important. Glad you're staying! :)
