Hurting from an addicts behavior...
I am a sister of a crack addict(50 yrs old) he lives with my elderly frail mom. She is his chief enabler and has been for 15 years. 3 months ago I decided to stop enabling her to enable him(giving up doing her bills and trying to protect her from having nothing). In those 3 months he talked her into changing her will, giving him her house, changed all bank accounts with his name on it, had her SS check deposited in a bank account with his name on it and negative balance in her checking account with multiple checks bouncing along with opening another life insurance policy in his name only. He also drives her car with no license! I found his crack pipe in his room after I suspected he was actively using again. I called division of elderly abuse, a lawyer and most of all a heart to heart with my mom. I have been the one doing everything for her the last few years! She chooses to believe every lie he tells her. I really fear for her safety, but no one will help me. The lawyer says it will cost me thousands of dollars to fight this and he thinks that since she has enabled him through his whole addiction that I am fighting a losing battle. I am in such torment. I feel like I am grieving my mom who is alive. Is there anyone that is going through this? I could use some support. I have 2 other brothers that walked away years ago because of him. He goes around telling everyone that I abandoned my mom.
