I need to vent for a minute... as many of you know, I left my fiance after finding out he was using some pretty hardcore drugs - cocaine, oxys and percs. He had told me he had been clean for four years and had been in a relapse for only about a month when he finally felt "forced" into telling me. Well, looking back on it, all the signs were there that he had been using for probably the entire time I had been with him. Never had any money, I was constantly babysitting him, helping him write his resume, applying for jobs he never took, etc. I always had a feeling something was wrong with him, but I thought he just felt overwhelmed being discharged from the Marines and trying to assimilate back into civilian life.

The day he admitted to this "relapse" I left. As much as I loved him, I just do not want that in my life. I have worked very hard in life to get to where I am today. Drugs or not, the relationship was on the outs anyway because of his dependent behavior.

The problem? We both have a lot of family that live in the same town. Since the breakup, my family has run into various members of his family. They NEVER fail to make comments like, "well it's too bad she quit on him, he was doing so much better when he was with her." Obviously, to a point I feel extremely sorry for these people. He is clearly manipulating them; they are his puppets and I promise you not one has been to a single Al-anon meeting ever. At the same time, these comments are extremely offensive and beyond disrespectful to my family. It is like saying to my family that my purpose in life was to keep my fiance healthy and gee, too bad, my parents raised a horrible woman because I wouldn't stand by his side and "make" him get better.

It makes me sick. They are as selfish as he is.
