I can't say how long my sister 'A' has been in recovery. Do you ever really know? Due to the fact that I limit my contact with her she could of had more relapses then I'm aware of.
Recently she went to jail. Only for 3 months, and our criminal code states that she only has to serve 2/3 of the time. It was on a fraud charge that involved some of her addict buddies. Another thing where she claimed she was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Uh huh.
Her lawyer and the prosecuter asked for house arrest but the judge looked at her rap sheet and denied it. He ended up going above their heads and sentencing her to jail time.
I'm tired of hearing my mother tell anyone who asks that the judge was too harsh, that the preliminary sentencing report was wrong (though it WAS really messed up and all the facts were off), that the lawyer didn't try hard enough....all the reasons 'A' is in jail besides her own stupidity.
She will miss Christmas and New Years. My mum informed me that I am going to visit her in two weeks. Now, I am going to go but I'm not really sure what my mother hopes to accomplish. I mean, we have to drive a few hours to see her to what.....sit in a room and stare at her awkwardly? Last time she was in prison for a year and I never once went to visit her. I don't even know what to expect. Her last stint was federal prison and this one is provincial.
I'm so tired of feeling sorry for her that I just don't. I'm tired of people feeling sorry for her. I'm tired of listening to how sorry she feels for herself!! I have to own up to my mistakes in life, take responsibility, so why is it that because she is a recovering addict that everyone seems to think she is not liable for her screw ups???
She constantly says she worked so hard to be where she is. Sure, she put in some work, but not a lot. She would go hard at her steps and while everyone was cheering her on and praising her she did good. But the MOMENT she was doing so well that people stepped back to their own lives as they assumed she was good to go she just gave up and slipped back. So in years she has made very little progress, just the same stuff over and over and over again. Yet she claims she has done so much that there is no reason she should be in trouble. Um, you had a crack addict living with you, selling crack, robbing other crack heads (thus the fraud charge) and yet you tell everyone you are better? That it was just an accident. That it was all his fault and you had no idea what was going on? *ahem* *cough* *bullshit*
I just had to rant a little. I'm tired a lot lately. About almost everything in life. And this was just weighing me down so I needed to unload it :)

I'm sure your mom knows your sister is where she is because of her own actions. She's trying to make it appear not as "bad" as it is. I think she's trying to convince herself that it's not as "bad" as it is. Hopefully, the time will be productive for your sister and help her get sober.
Her year stint was actually only 10 months long in the end. It was in a womens prison dedicated to women with addiction issues and crimes. So there was counselling, crafts, classes etc all geared towards rehabilitation. After that she had to spend six months in a rehab. Then a year in a sober living program where she had to check in daily with her AADAC counseller and the police. And then a year on probation. She just got off probation recently actually. All that did not stop her from relapse. So a couple months playing ping pong and watching TV won't do nada. :(
keepmovin - yes it is a disease, but to get well and to keep well is a choice right!? i mean you can make the choice to make things better right? i mean you should not make the disease an excuse that it's always HARD to quit? ryt?
