You have to keep talking to him. Tell him how he is worth more and you understand he hates doing what he is doing. Tell him you will stand by him and take him to detox. Don't give up on him. I feel if a parent gives up what hope do they have?
There's nothing we can do but be on the emotional roller coaster ride...what I've done and what helped was to buy the Alanon book and read it every day it gave me comfort.
Stay the course, don't rescue but offer help in the form of detox, treatment..

I'll will keep you in my prayers..if it helps my son, was using all kinds of heavy drugs, he isn't now, but it was a horrible journey and I still live with the idea he could relapse.

My heart really goes out to you. My son has been an addict for 16 years. We have tried everything and yet, his father and I are right where you are. I have found some solace in al-anon. Might be worth looking into.
