I have such anger for her today. I feel like I make enormous progress and feel like i've come along way, and then BAM, back to square one. My sister enrages me and I'm sure I enrage her. She has no idea what it is like to be me, and to be fair, I have no idea what it is like to be her. The part that sucks is that we're connected. When she screws up it's felt by my family and ME. GOD GIVE ME THE STRENGTH TO ACCECPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE AND THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN. I need to be nice to her. Help.
Trying to put myself in his head is pointless, he is not capeable of doing the same for me, it became very clear to me when I saw that he could not even do that for his own child, I cannot relate and ultimately, don't really want to know how that must feel.
It is tragic how addictions tear families apart, we all wish we had that magic wand to wave that would fix it all.....I remember telling my addict I wish I could just wrap him in my arms and make it all better for him AND me, but sadly the damage was done LONG before I came into the picture.
I think the best thing you can do is be nice to YOURSELF :)
One thing that has helped me is to remember what my mother taught me, if U have nothing nice to say, say nothing. This way I don't continue to endorse the bad behavior.
I also struggle with the collateral damage to his family, friends, co-workers, but in the end it is on him......I cannot continue to care if he doesn't.
