My sister's friend has been trying to kill herself for while. The last time was about 3 months ago. She had long hair that she took alot of pride in. Then one night she shaved it all off and then tried to OD again.
She said that shaving her head gave her a feeling of control when she felt absolutely no control over anything else in her life.

My son cut his long hair 24 hours before he committed suicide 2/14/2017. I believe it was because he wanted to be rid of 'old growth' and by cutting it, he felt empowered to leave behind this world with its old growth and go where he could experience new growth. I think it also gave him a new control which he had not had before.

My mother cut off her very long hair that she had kept all her life to a very very short hair style. It was out of the blue and none of us ever expected her to do that, but we complimented her and honestly it really looked great. She seemed happy and we were happy for her. Years later she told me that during that same time period she had tried twice to end her own life using medicines/pharmaceuticals she had access to at work.

I had never heard anyone talk about this before - relating cutting off of hair to suicide. This is interesting and now I am very curious about this, too.

My mom has not ended her life yet but she mentions it a lot, almost every time I talk to her, which is what brought me to this group.

I feel that it gives people some power and control over themselves. Also they might have been assaulted and felt dirty which is the reason one of my friends did it.

im incredibly suicidal and i really want to cut my hair short. ive planned to do it next year after a big formal ball thing, but i dont want to wait that long. the reasons i want tto cut my hair, i guess, is partly cause of transgender feelings, but also just wanting to CHANGE something
