I agree that some medical conditions that put people at risk for suicide are genetic. And well parenting isn't easy, especially if you weren't parented well yourself. The same mental conditions that make it difficult to be a parent, can make a child more difficult to raise. And then at risk kids are more likely to suffer abuse. It kind of all slams the same people in ways that can't be seen and don't get much sympathy.

I struggle daily with BiPolar and get very weary of the highs and lows. I too have attempted twice. Once during a very low depression (first depressive episode at 28) and then again during psychosis. I don't know what keeps me going except that I don't self-medicate so my mind stays as clear as possible. BiPolar is a tiresome disease that we have to be conscious of all the time to predict triggers, etc. Alcohol and drugs exacerbate it and limit the quality of medications.
I'm sorry you've been through so much in your family too. Please know it was nothing about you. I can honestly say, sometimes living for some people is just too hard. Peace.
No one knows how to save all lives. We all want to, but we don't know how. If you believe in God (I'm athiest) than you know that even that's beyond God's powers.......
I have a friend who's had it for, well probably her whole life, but diagnosed, treated and controlled for 25 years now. It is possible to get a drug treatment that works, and then have minimal problems afterwards.
And then I've heard stories of endless struggle.
In any case, there are many ways to reach out to others and not feel so alone and isolated. I hope you're able to do that. And I hope you're able to get stable on meds.
Hugs.
My uncles, father, and grandmother were all victim to child abuse and I know they have struggled with that everyday of their lives. They have attempted several times but they have not succeeded. My brother, who was 19, hung himself a year ago. I was completely devastated as was my other brother. I still am to this day. A few months after he passed, my other brother called me and told me he wanted to be with my brother and he had taken a handful of pills.
No one in my family is bi-polar but clinical depression runs heavily in my family. I am seemingly the only person who avoided all the genetic traits of alcoholism, drug addiction, depression and suicidal thoughts which is unfortunately something everyone suffered from besides my grandmother. But I will say it's awful to watch and see how everyone hurts. My baby brother was always seemingly light hearted and positive like myself. His first attempt he tried to kill himself on my birthday. I was so confused and so hurt I couldn't understand or wrap my head around the idea. In late November of 2010 my grandmother tried to kill herself and I was so overwhelmed I was angry and upset. A week later, I got the most life changing devastating phone call of my life.
Even in my darkest hours and painful aching thoughts, I have never felt that life wasn't worth living for, and I wish I could understand how anyone could feel that way. I get sad and I get down but I wish there were times I could have comprehended what made my brother and the other members of my family lose hope.
Stay strong and my thoughts are with you. I am so sorry for the pain that you have experienced and I send good thoughts and good vibes your way.
