Esophageal Cancer Support Group

Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.

Hi all....I have my scans, blood work and Drs. appt. at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Even though I was stage 4, with a positive node, it looks like I'm winning this battle.Surgery Aug. 09....still cancer free. To say I'm a little nervous is an understatement.In April 09 they told me I had 6 months to live ..and not only am I still here...but healthy and feel fine. Nonetheless, I certainly could use any good feelings and prayers anyone might want to send along....many thanks....ML.

Hi Martin! Certainly will have you in my thoughts and prayers. Those nearing-date check-ups can surely be nerve racking. Really, that's about the only time I get in that nervous state, so it's always a relief to hear all is clear. Each time, it does feel like a new lease on life. Kinda funny, because really something could pop up with anyone anyday, but we sure can put a lot of stock in upcoming tests and results. I think that's perfectly normal and expected. I'm definitely glad we get to enjoy all those days in between and as time goes by, I seem a little cautiously less nervous. Sounds great how you're doing and I think many others share your good news in being told one thing and proving another :-) Let's keep trying to stomp out cancer :-) Hang in there! Brenda

Sorry. Had some PC issues to fix, so I haven't been on for a bit.

Martin, I am so happy for you! I only wish my husband would have had the same results! He was diagnosed in December, '08, stage III, had surgery 6/10/09 and passed away 8/10/09. He made it through the surgery & did well for quite awhile. He had terrible care in the hospital , given meds he was allergic to & other complications. I only wish he could have gone to a cancer center. I have excellent insurance but the Philly hospitals could not accept it so he had to go to our local hospital in Reading. I hope all goes welll for you at your appointment & that you get great news. You are so a fortunate to have come this far with that disease. I will keep you in my prayers & check back, hopefully for a good update. Don't ever give up the fight! CHERI
