Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.
Anyone have a problem with their voice being hoarse before being diagnosed?

I didn't have hoarseness, but if you research esophageal cancer that lists as a symptom sometimes, as well as to other things. If you haven't seen a Dr. regarding it, I would get in to see one. Definitely better to be safe and have it checked out. My symptom was swallowing difficulty. Hope you get some answers as to what is causing your being hoarse. Brenda

Yes I had trouble with hoarseness. Doctors did not get the connection

this was one of my hubbys first symptoms along with the swallowing difficulity.Thankfully our primary is best friends with one of the leading doctors at Roswell (Cancer Institute) and got him in right away.His hoarsness is getting worse .It doesnt help that he's a yeller:)

No, husband's was found during an endoscope which was scheduled every three years because he had barretts.

Yes, that was the first symptom my husband had that led him to see a Dr. He had a paralyzed vocal cord, easily fixed with a small injection. He has since passed but he did get his voice back and it made a difference in his emotional well being.
