It took awhile to convince my husband to use Marinol (dronabinol). I wish he had started it earlier. My husband lost 80 lbs total. He too, had to get IV fluids.

I'm not sure whether ginger root is effective against chemo-induced nausea, but it can work like a charm for car- and seasickness. Both my son and I suffer from these and utilize a variety of ginger products to combat it: a pinch of freshly-grated ginger root mixed with water, ginger gum, and sometimes just sips of warm flat commercial gingerale.
It can't hurt your husband to try any or all of these remedies. Why not, if his doctor gives them the green light?

My cousin is getting chemo for another type of cancer, but has found cannabis very helpful in stimulating her appetite & as an adjunct treatment with other meds for nausea.She lives in Seattle, WA, where cannabis lollipops, gummy bears & other such snacks can be purchased legally & easily. She says the ingredient that creates the "high" of smoking pot has been removed.

If it's legal in your state, it might be worth a try.

My sister struggled also with this until she asked her doctor for a prescription of marinol. It's a derivative of marijuana in pill form. It helped her so much!
