My husband didn't use accupuncture, but it seems like a low risk thing to try. Another family member used marijuana with good success. Other people have tried marinol, which is a prescription for marijuana. I hope your husband feels better soon.

My husband never tried accupuncture for nausea although accupuncture did help him with another issue. He did, however, suffer from extreme nausea. He had chemo twice and the 2nd time was grueling. They had already removed his feeding tube. For awhile, the only thing he could keep down was protein powder in water. He lost 80 lbs. He's currenly using Marinol to stimulate his appetite. He's doing well.

As difficult as it is to watch a loved one suffer so much keep reminding yourself that the treatment is being done to save his life.I hope things improve for him. I wish you both the best.

thank you both for responding. I am so glad to hear your husband is doing well Linda. I hope you two have a wonderful time on your trio that is planned for soon. I have high hopes for the acupuncture. If he could just drink something every day I would feel better. He has not taken in anything orally in so long. His last radiation is tomorrow! So, then we know it is a long time to recovery from that, but thankful it is over...and hope it will have done what it is designed to do. I have a better attitude, but I also have a 24 yr old son, who thinks I am whining about all of it...but of course, not wanting to help with things that need doing around the house. Sorry ..I digress...I am learning to let go...for he too, will learn someday. I am anxious to see how much weight my husband has lost. The hospital says he has lost 90+ pounds, but not sure I believe that. shall see tomorrow! I am learning to take it moment by moment...good and bad....I will let you all know if the acupuncture qorks!

Linda, yeah about the radiation being almost over. My husband slowly started feeling better about two weeks after his chemo/radiation treatments. Linda is right, it is very stressful to watch. My guess is most 24 year old sons would be a little clueless ( I probably would be at that age) but even my elementary age boys saw my husband suffer and knew it was important to help around the house. Maybe you could get others to help you? People always seem willing to help out.

I never tried acupuncture. Zofran (tablet dissolving under my tongue) did ok in helping with my nausea.

I'm sure you have or would check with his oncologist before trying acupuncture, as I think they just recommend running everything by the oncologist.

Isn't that like little needles entering the skin? I think my only concern would be if he's prone to infection through treatment, does that run any risk? It's probably my lack of knowledge of it, that has me even asking this question, but it did peak my curiosity about that. I know dealing with EC is so much to go through we never need any added issues. I hope he does well with his feeding tube, I had one. Brenda

Acupuncture worked great...She put the needles in and his nausea went away...she left them in for 1.5 hours and when she took them out, the nausea returned! She said the effects are cummulative so hope she is right. He is so so nauseous, it breaks my heart to watch him suffer continuously. He lost a total of 70 lbs. so far, but gained 6 pounds this week on 24 hr feeding tube, so that is good news. This is so much worse than the chemo regimen. We will continue with the acupuncture and see if it helps longer than the time the needles are in.!

Wow, that's good to hear. Normally, they keep the needles in for 30 minutes. I hope your husband feels better soon.
