dear friend the worst thing about me having epilepsy was that as soon as i was diagnoised at 16 my parents didnt want to know me and they still havent spoken to me i think they have only seen my daughter twice and shes 11.my mum allways told people me having epilepsy made her ashamed but why i will never know but in the eners its her fault i have epilepsy as it is caused from me having a fractured skull when my mum put me on the back of my brothers bike and i fell of which as left a scar which the surgeon is removing

I was diagnosed at 16 and since my uncle has it, it like no big deal. I have minor seizures and I had other medical issues at the time that epilepsy was a minor one. I went to a small high school, and I am sure some people there knew about it. I was never treated any different because of it. I never had a seizure at school either, so that helped. I think it helped that my family was used to grand mals (my uncle, who hasn't had one in like 30+ years) so mine seemed mild.

Epilpesy/seizures have changed my life, like it will change anyones life. you have to be constantly aware, and on top of your surroundings. however, ghe good news, I have mine almost 100% under control. I believed i emaild you a while back about a few things. However, I was diagnosed at 17, and had the worst of it from 21-23. I was off my pills, taking them sporadicly. So my advise to everyone with epilepsy, take the meds.
During the period i wasnt taking my meds, my mind was really messed up.I made a lot of bad decisions. My first wife walked out on me, due to those decisons.

I am angry about having epilepsy! But, I am not angry at the world, my husband, my family, or my friends. I am lucky to have love and support from each and every one! All I can do is the best I can every day, take my meds and take care of myself. I am standing up for myself and ditching neurologists and doctors who are unsympathetic, and keep looking for those phyicians who are capable of helping me. It is a non-stop learning process- learning my limitations, my new self and my new capabilities. I am also fortunate to have DS and all my friends here- it is a comfort to have friends whose experiences are like mine...

I was diagnosed just over ayear ago after a year of ongoing medical battles with other things. I have more then one neurological condition and the epilepsy was just piled on top of that.

At times I am sad, angry I wasn't diagnosed sooner. I went a year with seizures and we thought they were part of the other neurological problems I have. Mostly I just wake up each day to the challenge that this might be the day i go seizure free.

It has changed my life by giving me the perspective that the Lord will teach us the lessons He wants us to learn even if we choose not to listen. I wasn't listening and so He chose a stronger challenge to teach me the lessons.

I started having seizures at 14, diagnosed at 17. I was ignorant as most and didn't know, that since I wasn't falling on the floor flopping around... That was a seizure! Now I use my illness as a way to spread the word! I educate people every chance I get. I am not ashamed. This is ME, don't like it.. YOUR loss! I am woman hear me ROAR!

i have had epilepsy all my life, and until fairly recently there was always a stigma associated to it. when i had to miss work in the 80s while they tried to get me under control from t/cs, when i came back to work i was a leper except a few friends. when i became uncontrolable almost 5 yrs ago, people at my work were very concerned for me. talking about this uncle has it or my sister has it,etc. so that was ok, but until i get better controled i wont have much of a social life. i even let friends know that i email with from 30 yrs ago, and they are ok with it. there attitude is everybody has something and they think i am strong and couragous, though i dont always feel strong. i would rather not have it of course but it is my cross to bear and God will take care of me.the only embarassing thing is my hubby says that when i have them in public and hit my head and the store calls an ambulance, the emts will rattle off where all they have picked me up from. glad i am postictal during that! lol

i was dx in 2001 with epilepsy.. than in 2005 with stroke..then in 2006 with secondary progressive MS... i have adjusted to it all well i like to think...but when my youngest son was dx with epilepsy about 8 months ago..even though i knew it was comming...sigh... had known in my own mind for about a year and a half now... it hurt.. the guilt..the stigma ..for him... the guilt for me...smile.. that it when it hit..
i think what bothered me most of all...is the fact that he is so used to seeing me seize..and all that we go through with the meds etc...that he has just grown so used to that life style that he just accepted it... he did not put up a fight..no anger..no resentment... no blame...nothing... he has not missed one day for his meds except xmas morning... he has been taking them morning and nite as he knows how important they are...sigh.. at 14 newly dx.. he should not know all this...he should not know this life style so easily.. this is not what i wanted him to inherit from me...

Hi i was pushed by a school bully for no reason banged my head i was 13yrs i am now 46yrs, and now they our worse,i have died a few times,and luckily been brought back again with a needle,reason being i have asthma as well,and they normally come together and lose my breadth,but my anger for the girl who pushed me has gone, and i have to live with it i wanted to be a nurse,but i help people on DS there the only friends i have love shirlxx
