I am a 58 year old female who also has a history of a migraines and anxiety for approx. 30 yrs. The migraines strike about every 10 weeks, but there has been no change with my migraines. I just deal with the anxiety, it comes and goes, but I am a pretty anxious person so say the least. I am on no medications.
I come to this group to inquire about a symptom that I have experienced on and off throughout the years, which affects my eyes, however the past few weeks the symptoms have been more frequent. I have had negative EEGs in the past. not recent, in addition to a series of blood tests just a few months ago that were ok, except for low vitamin D.
The symptom is..... I am extremely light/glare sensitive per say, mainly to TV, computer and phone screens. The best way I can describe the sensation I get in my eyes, is if you were to suddenly look through eye glasses that were too strong and get an uneasy off sensation in your eyes. The sensation is very brief, just lasts a few seconds and I have to quickly look away, then I am ok. It also happens but less often when I read or when driving. Lately I have been experiencing this odd annoyance which also frightens me, throughout the day.
Also, I sort of jump from with in when it happens, almost like when you are suddenly startled. I have no pain or other symptoms coinciding with the sensitivity. I do notice it does appear to happen when I am considerably overtired or under great stress.
With that said, I have been under great good/bad stress for two months. I work as a sub as a secretary in a school, so busy end of year, as well as I have been interviewing and just received a new job, which included lots of paperwork, and now I am apprehensive, I start next week.
In addition, my husband had retina disorder and has been off work for a month and could not anything! The good happy news is, my daughter just had a baby, (girl) this week, that's the good stress. But my husband and I have been helping with our 2 and 4 year old grandsons for the past week, her other two children. They stayed at our house, yikes the tired us out! The drive is 50 miles to my daughters house, so lots of driving back and forth, and I have been working 8 hours days. So,needless to say, I am exhausted!
In related to my symptoms, I have been told in the past, by drs. some of my odd symptoms, (I have neuro symptoms that come and go as well) sound almost like a some type of seizure, but I have never actually experienced a seizure. My past EEGs normal, as I mentioned. My symptoms always come and go, not turning into something devastating so no further investigation takes place. I suppose the good news is that I have had these symptoms before and they do go away. But I am curious as to what exactly the eye episods might be since that is my main concern presently and if I should be worried or not.

The only thing I can think of is to talk to your neurologist or doctor about PNES, or Psychogenic NonEpileptic Seizures. Perhaps see what they think about that? By no means am I a doctor and it is possible to have epilepsy without having an abnormal EEG.
No doctor (neurologist or otherwise) should be relying on an abnormal EEG for diagnosis of epilepsy. But if they believe that this is not epilepsy, I would mention this and perhaps see what they say.
And definitely get a referral to an Epilepsy Specialist if you have not already. Good luck!
