Yep.... I had to take a disability retirement and now I am applying for SSDI. I wish I had good news for you. Look around your area and see what services are available. If there is a Vocational Rehabiliation Agency... they can be alot of help. Here, they help with transportation and alot of other options.

Can you afford taxis? Past that riding a bike comes to mind, but is varying in practicality depending on your disposition and where you live.
If disability takes that long then so be it, do what you have to do in order to get where you need to be. Do you think you could find or start a carpool in your neighborhood with one or more people going to approx the same area you are? It wouldn't hurt to ask, or maybe put an ad in the paper or something even saying that you cannot drive but would pay or something like that.
Handbills posted locally or local zines and magazines that are free might have ad space.

Can you move live close to work? Are there people at your work who could give you a lift ? Go to your local Church or community center. They might have some retired members who could help you out. People are often very eager to help if they are asked.

I was having seizures really bad for 3 yrs...approxmatiely 20-23 yrs of age. i worked for cash under the table. Every time i had a pt time job, or whatever, and had a seizure ont he job, they would call ambulances and rack up my medical bill. i was married at the the tiem, and we made it by on my wifes income....but it was hell..

SSI is something to work on..definately get it...just so you have it for later. as far as a quick fix, all these are good suggestions.

As far as SSDI goes--if you can work and the only reason you would be applying is because you can't drive---don't apply. I hate to say that but the very reason the system is backed up is because people apply who are perfectly capable of working. Not being able to drive does not qualify you for SSDI.

As far as getting to work--be creative.
-take a taxi. If you are in a small town I'm sure there is still a taxi service--I live in a town of 7500 with no public transportation and we have a taxi service.
-put an ad in the paper for a carpool.
-I'm sure someone you work with drives by your house on their way to work--or drives darn well near it. Or someone you live by works near where you work.
-if it is too far to walk then ride a bike.
-Move if you have to. Which is worse--moving or not having a job???

The thing to do is apply for SSI, which doesn't take that long and then apply for disability later. But as race121 mentioned; you do have to prove that your epilepsy is affecting your ability to work or earn a living before you will be excepted. Being unable to drive is more like an unfortunate side effect.

wow...7,500..thats a large town...i grew up in a town of less than 200...and yes thats two hundred. if you didnt have a vehicle or couldnt drive, you be screwed in her situation.

I fell you hon. hope something works for you. you may have to consider moving. i know it sucks, but hey, better than being homless because of no job.

I have severe physical limitations on the work i can do, as a result of my epilepsy and seizures. maybe i can/cant qualify, but it does affect the jobs i can do and the fields i wish to go into...

Though my seizures are now under control, after a stroke I had to re-train myself to operate a computer to do Architectural drawings at home and e-mail the work to the people I was working for. Even today with my seizure's under control I still work out of my home 95% of the time. There is a lot of companies that will allow people to work out of their homes.
