Epilepsy & Seizures Support Group
Epilepsy (often referred to as a seizure disorder) is a chronic neurological condition characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures. It is commonly controlled with medication, although surgical methods are used as well. Seizures (or convulsions) are temporary abnormal electrophysiologic phenomena of the brain, resulting in abnormal synchronization of electrical neuronal...
I asked the same question...why am I waking up like this after getting good sleep?? Here's the answer from a neurologist but run it by yours and definitely speak to yours about all this. I was told that when we fall asleep all the chemicals in our body fall asleep too. They slow down. If you really think about it our body works based on chemistry. When we begin to wake up so does all the chemicals in our body. To some of us, definitely me and maybe you, the waking up of those chemicals is like a power surge and overloads us with electrical activity. The meds help, they just don't work over night. All these medications need to build up in our body to maintain a balance for us.
Unfortunately, the anti-seizure meds do make us tired and we just have to get used to it or I try to relax a little so I'm not falling asleep during the day. You have to let yourself sleep or you may become sleep deprived and that isn't a good thing.
Feeling down or depressed is also part of the illness and the migraines. I get that way too. I'm sorry. I am trying to get disability right now ; it's a very long process but may be worth it. Believe it or not, I think the weather and changing pressure systems have something to do with how my head feels too. Some days I feel like my head will explode! If it rains, then it may feel better....go figure! Sometimes Beta Blockers or high blood pressure medicines are given too to block a migraine. I have low blood pressure so it doesn't work for me. I get shaky too and some days are worse than others and what helps me is a glass of orange juice. The shakes could be something as simple as low blood sugar and the orange juice picks it up. The migraines make me forget to eat sometimes or I'm just not hungry and that's the result. I sympathize with you on all of this and please feel free to ask any questions. I've lived with this my whole life. It isn't fun and not many people understand how we feel and the reason is they can't see what we feel...it's easier to understand something when you can see it. One last thing I've done for myself is I've kept 2 different kinds of journals. One is a journal of the headaches and migraines I get. I write down when, what time of day, where it is on my head how bad the pain is and what I did to make it go away. When I see my doctor I show him the journal. I think it helps. The second journal is a gratitude journal. I try to find something from each day that I'm thankful for and I write it in there. This keeps me more focused on uplifting thoughts and lessens the depression. It's not perfect but it helps. I hope this helps a little, my thoughts are with you.....
