Hi everyone.
So I have had seizures my whole life but they became more pronounced back in 2012. I’ve been on Keppra since 2012. I just turned 21 and I have been told that I can’t drink or smoke with my medication. When I checked WebMD about the precautions with the medication and having a drink, it just said that you will get dizzy and drowsy and to not drive anywhere. What have you guys been told or experienced with this?

You're an adult now and sometimes it just sucks having to accept the fact that you have to make adult decisions.
Depending on what your mixed drink or shot or straight drink is, you cause yourself harm by drinking and taking Anti-seizure meds faster than you realize. Adding Alcohol to these medications causes increased drowsiness, extreme low blood pressure, loss of coordination, increased anger and aggression and increased CNS (Central Nervous System) Depression. The more you drink your tolerance for alcohol becomes increased creating a false sense of control of your body and your situation.
Alcohol, depending on the percentage of ABV (alcohol by volume) lowers your Seizure threshold, which means you'll have Seizures more easily, your meds won't work properly. Alcohol metabolizes straight through your liver which is already taxed by the Anti-Seizure meds, so your adding stress and damage to an already stressed organ.
There's no good outcome to combining Alcohol and Anti-Seizure meds or Alcohol and a Seizure Disorder. Its not the fun answer, but you can still have fun with your friends without drinking.
I also have a Seizure Disorder, I have Grand Mal Seizures, I take 2 different Anti-Seizure meds, I enjoy time out with my friends and I don't drink and have never smoked....we still enjoy each others company without me putting myself at more risk or danger and without me putting them at more risk of having to deal with the increased chance of me having a Seizure.
