The dr put my 7y/o son on 100mg of Carbatrol 2x a day, it goes up to 3x next week. I don't know anything about seizures meds, but it seems like a lot to me. My husband is on meds for the same thing, Topamax, and he's only taking 50mg a day.
Keep in mind, everyone's body chemistry is different. Just because your husband is only taking 50 mg of topamax does not necessarily mean the dosage of carbatrol is too high for your son.
I have been attending support group meetings sponsored by the Epilepsy Foundation. You may want to check and see if there is one in your area you can attend. They are free of charge and you can get a lot of information from them. It's nice to talk to others and get ideas of what they have gone through or advice they may be able to offer.
