Allergies Support Group
When the immune system responds to a foreign substance in an abnormal way, it is classified as an allergy. When the body first contacts the substance, it will not cause any reactions, but the immune system will start to produce antibodies to it and subsequent contact will trigger more dramatic responses. Depending on the allergy, the response could be mild or very severe...
I do agree - filters did nothing. I had one on the furnace, and one in my room. I needed to move to recover.
The interesting thing about black mold, is that it was in all my furniture. We thought it was here the first year we moved here - because it appeared on the windows. We got rid of the furniture and it disappeared. Dry is the best way to overcome this. If you can move.
This is what was/is so devastating to me, that even when I moved, and either stored or got rid of all my things, my sister moved into the SAME apt. in the woods, though I begged her not to! Now, whenever she visits, I get those same neurological symptoms, of eye blinking, clicking sounds in my head, joints cracking (something others can hear!) and lack of concentration/ability to think, and anxiety!
This has driven a deep rift between us, as my sister doesn't believe that I get these awful symptoms, even though I have shown her literature on the subject, and try to explain my hypersensitivity. BTW, Dr. Gordon of Mt. Saiani (I spelled that so wrong!) has done a study on the neuro. effects of mold, and came to the conclusion that we exhibit temporary symptoms, very similar to patients with head trauma injuries!
This is a growing health concern that needs to be spoken about a lot more...people need to be brave and not worry that others won't believe them. One researcher said, with frustration, that there is a huge divide between what the scientists are learning about molds' effects on health, and what the doctors know.
