As much as you probably do have adenomyosis I would have still gone with the lap and hysteroscopy....Just to make sure about the endo.

Can a hysteroscopy suggest adeno? I know it can only "officially" be diagnosed via pathology after a hysterectomy but I've heard it can be heavily suspected by a boggy appearance during a lap? Maybe the bogginess shows up during hysteroscopy too?

If the hysteroscopy will help you make the right decision then it's a good way to go.

The other option would be to have the lap (and hysteroscopy) with the possibility of transitioning into a hysterectomy, but only if you're 100% ok with it and have discussed how it will be done and everything ahead of time. I can totally understand wanting to have a hysteroscopy to be better informed first....hugs to you with your tough decisions in this situation.

Yeah I know and that's fine right now he said I could always reschedule. But he said my complaints and what he's finding (without the other stuff and obviously the hysterectomy) he doesn't know which I'm ok with. For right now.

Wait I'm confused. Why is he going forward with the hysteroscopy? Does he suspect fibroids? I'm nearly positive that you can't diagnose adeno without a hysterectomy.

You're right, kdeezy. Though I do think if they find nodules that they can remove and biopsy it's possible to diagnose that way but that's pretty rare. It can be suspected by appearance and symptoms but pretty much the only 100% way to diagnose is by hysterectomy.
Also most women who have adenomyosis also have endo....that's just why I personally would have still gone thru with the lap. Then you could have just had it all done at once and knocked out! :-)

Sorry, I just had another thought - wouldn't a lap be preferable to diagnose probable adeno since it's the appearance in the outside that is a telling sign? A hysteroscopy just looks INSIDE the uterus for abnormalities in the lining or fibroids or polyps. I can't imagine that adeno would cause abnormalities of the uterine cavity.

He thinks I have a polyp which is why I'm going thru with that but he also said it is possible to diagnose adeno thru a hysteroscopy tho the only official way is indeed thru a hysterectomy. I'm doing one thing at a time and then going from there. The thing he wanted to do after we ruled this out is go to a lap like felana said and than if it looked bad do a hysterectomy BUT he said that even if I went ahead with a hystectomy hed clear the endo (or what he could see). Adeno can cause dark lines (which I think he said where the uterine wall is separating) he did say this wasn't a very accurate way to diagnose but that it could be done. I just want to see where the hysteroscopy shows and go from there.

This is totally just me....but i would just assume do them all at the same time....especially if you know you will go thru with the lap at some point. As someone who's had 4 laps I'd rather just know everything all at once.

I hear you Christine trust me- but after I talked to him today and we talked I realized IF he went in and decided to transition into a hysterectomy I didn't have enough time to think it thru to make a good decision (although I'll probably get it) BUT he also didn't have enough time to do a hysterectomy with the time allotted. So trust me I get what you're saying but I don't want him to go in twice when only one time needs to really happen if that makes sense. Also whats a hysteroscopy like haha

I don't know what it's like because I had my two while I had laps so I was under.
See that just doesn't make sense to me...you need to know 100% what's in there before you make such a drastic decision as a hysterectomy. I would absolutely never leave that decision up to a Dr.
My Dr actually wouldn't do a lap and transition it into a hysterectomy....It's two separate surgeries. I was even told if something terrible was found during my lap they'd wake me up to get permission to do what might be needed..like a hysterectomy (I couldn't give prior permission for an unknown)....and they don't like to do that so if something like that happened she'd more than likely close up, talk to me at my post op and go from there.

I do understand what you are saying....I'm just saying from my experience is not a choice I'd personally make (I'm not saying in any way that your way is wrong...It's totally your choice! It's just not what it's do).

Theyd do it laprascopically tho the hysterectomy I mean...I don't know right now I'm in so much pain I'm desperate which is why I'm not rushing into anything.

I have to agree with Christine here. His logic doesn't seem to make sense. Unless there was an emergency (like your uterus ruptured which I guarantee you would never happen during a lap) then a surgeon would perform an emergency hysterectomy, but NEVER just because disease is present, especially considering your age. I've gotta say, unless he doesn't suspect endo this just doesn't make sense but if this is what you want then go for it.

Yes but it's not the same surgery.....especially where insurance is concerned. My three regular laps done in a surgical center were around $6000 each. This last one where I had to do it in the hospital because I had the ovary removed too was $23,000.
It just seems to me you're prolonging the inevitable.
