Specialists and insurance issues

I finally have an appt with a specialist! I found a reproductive endocrinologist at a teaching hospital. This doctor has a special research interest in endo and hormones. I like what I know about her because I feel like most rep. endocrinologists are all about getting you pregnant and ivf. That's great, but I'm single, and as much as I'd love to get pregnant, I need to find a man first. ;)

The only problem is this doctor doesn't take insurance. I am blessed with great insurance, but this dr doesn't take any! The office said sometimes insurance will partially reimburse you. Have any of you encountered this? Would you still go?

I would still go for a first visit. Try it out, can't hurt, right? Also, call your insurance ahead of time and find out how much a visit with her will be reimbursed through them after you file the paperwork. Good luck!

Thanks! I just called insurance and they will cover 70% of an office visit for this dr. Part of me really wants to like this dr and hope she has some answers, but part of me is scared because sticking with her could get very expensive. Endo is already an expensive disease!

I agree. Go to the first visit. You will learn a lot by just meeting the doctor . Bring questions. Take one step at a time.
I was curious why your insurance will not cover. I ran into that if they were out of network. They paid less. I think you should go and then make a decision after that. Also you could get some help from the staff of this new doctor. I know when my insurance was being a pain about paying. They worked with them and even wrote a letter of necessity for the services. I remember when I had my old insurance, i had to pay out of pocket to see my endo specialist, then id get reimbursed a few weeks later.
Maybe you can call your insurance company and ask them if you have out of network benefits. You might and if so ask them how you get reimbursed, and how long it takes, what precentage do they pay...
If not, I agree, still see the specialist. My new insurance doesnt cover specialists either, but Im going to have to pay out of pocket to see a specialist maybe twice a year. Its worth it to see a Dr. who actually understands.

Oops. I just read your post, I usually read the responses, and this time i missed that you called your insurance already from endowife's response. I should always read the responses. Thats great that your insurance covers 70%. Take it and run! Good luck.

yeah, take it and run. My insurance doesn't cover all of the surgery costs so I get a lovely $300 or $700 bill every once in a while. It just depends on how you are doing financially and how much more benefit she will provide. I personally would pay twice as much for the correct diagnoses and a good surgeon. I hope you can afford this in the long run if she is good.

Thanks, everyone! Yeah, it's definitely worth a shot. I will see how the first appt goes. It's not for another month, but I'm excited about the prospect of someone who can help or at least offer some more insight into what's going on.
