You and I suffer from a similar issue with the BM's and diarrhea (sorry TMI).

That sounds similar to me. I have sharp, severe pains during bowel movements and lingering crampy pains after. My rectum and uterus are fused together with scar tissue and my doctor thinks that's what causes it.

Can they unfuse them? I know that sounds sarcastic, but I really am curious.

Yes, Alana, the can separate the rectum from the uterus. This issue is called obliteration of the cul de sac and is often seen in stage 4 endo. I have heard of extremely skilled surgeons being able to do this without a resection, but with an a surgeon who is not extremely skilled in this area a resection commonly occurs. A resection is when they cut out the diseased part of the intestines, depending on which part is affected.
This is what I am facing with my surgery on the 12th, but my surgeon feels confident that a resection is a very small possibility.

The link that I posted in this post and a previous post explains a lot, and since exploring the entire website I have found a lot in helpful info. I strongly recommend that everyone read this stuff, it is interesting and sheds a lot of light on what can be done in terms of treating certain areas.

I have had severe burning pain after a bowel movement for 27 years that specialists just could not diagnose. I was finally diagnosed with severe pervasive endometriosis 2 years ago & had lap+hysterectomy with 5" bowel re-section because there was a huge endometrial blister inside my bowel wall just above the rectum. Unfortunately, the surgery did not resolve the pain, which occurs right after a BM and is mysteriously in the center of my stomach. Doctors think it is referring pain pattern from the rectum.

Thanks everyone for your replies and helpful info - the link was a very helpful read. I have been putting off going to my gynae because she told me last time that if I'm still having these symptoms after 6 months on the Visanne that they would have to do another lap, as she cannot see anything on ultrasound or other scans. I'm so scared of having surgery, and I think I am also more scared of what they might find, but I know I shouldn't just leave it.

In response to the "unfusing", everything Vally said is spot on. My surgeon told me he could try to separate them but then you get to a point where you can't really tell what's what and you're just kind of guessing. I'm looking at a bowel resection during my next surgery which hopefully won't be for a while. I can live with the pain in the meantime.

I get very sharp shooting pains during bowel movements. I will sometimes get them before, especially if I'm on my period. I am usually not too crampy after, I just feel uncomfortable. I don't know how to explain it, just a crummy feeling that will last most of, if not the rest of the day.

javajvg-I also get that pain you're referring to, a couple inches underneath my breast bone. It is very uncomfortable for me to have any type of pressure there.

I am new to this group but I understand what you are talking about. I usually get sharp pains right before a BM and usually it is diarrhea but sometimes I am constipated. Also, I feel like I do not get rid of it all. Lately I feel like I can't eat because every time I do I feel so overly stuffed and bloated after only eating a small amount of food. Does anyone else have these symptoms that could be related to endo? I am having my first lap in March and it's killing me to have to wait so long!
