The likely result is they will remove the endometriomas and monitor your progress. Taking the ovaries and or the uterus is a huge thing (although some doctors will be quick to jump there expecially as a last resort) - usually though they will try their hardest to save everything.

I could be wrong, I'm no doctor after all, but I can assure you taking your ovary would be a last and final resort. Hopefully it can be removed =)

Surgery recovery I find although uncomfterble is the easiest part of this disease. I think because I know it will go away unlike the endo etc. You will need to take some time to heal and it's good to have someone around for the first few days.

I understand your worries. i've been having very painful periods and outrageously heavy for 3 years.. bringing up the pain here and there and getting it shrugged off i'm atthe point now i could no longer take it and broughtit up to my primary and she said this is NOT right i agree i think it could be endo tell your gyno i wan this and this and that. and too look into endo as a main cause. at my pelvi my gyn said everythign felt normal sized. so tomorrow i have a follow up with her to relay what my primary said and we will see what she says if she shrugs me off again i'm finding a new doctor! but i've been freaking out about already thinking about surgeries and everythign..

I am in the same boat with you, except that I have been experiencing pain for over six months and it has been increasingly worse as time goes on. My first ultrasound showed fluid on my pelvis which they believe was the result of a cyst rupturing. They attributed that to me removing myself from the birth control pills which were giving me migraine almost weekly and my ovaries actually "working." The second ultrasound showed nothing. So they wanted to monitor my symptoms. After a month of having terrible pain almost everyday along with other issues, I went back and asked for my options. They were the birth control ring, the birth control shot, or the surgery. I chose the surgery. Some think I am crazy, but I want to know what is wrong with me and not just mask it with birth control.

Just make sure you ask lots of questions, even if you think its a "dumb" question, ask it. Ask for him/her to walk you through verbally all the steps and what you can expect. Let them know your neverous, don't internalize all your fears and worries. This may be your first rodeo, but it isn't for them, make them take u step by step. Just be vocal, say what your thinking...

Beachgirl - There is a question of wanting to improve your quality of life and that is what you need to think about (tomorrow). How large did they say your uterus was? Are they considering PCOS as a diagnosis because of the cysts? Why do you need to see an endocrinologist? Are you having problems, symptoms due to the cysts? It sounds like you have problems, but it doesn't really bother you.

Hun, you don't have to be forced into surgery. No one is going to tie you down and cut you without your permission.

For me, I wanted to have surgery to improve my quality of life because it would make a huge difference for me. I had two laparatomies in less than a year for fibroids removal. My periods were extermely heavy and I became moderately anemic.

I can tell you if you do decide to go through with it, you can do it! I understand being scared, because it's sound scary. But, if you put in your peace of mind the focus you are going to get better, you will be fine. Once you are prepared (exercise, core strengthening), you will recover faster.

Take some time, relax for the night. Don't think about this whole thing for the rest of the day and don't worry. Take a deep breath and think of the Maui beaches. Tomorrow is another day hun to re-focus!

So I went to the endocrinologist today and I am finally starting to feel ok with this. She was extremely helpful, caring, and nice. She explained that the 2 cysts are most like endometriomas from what they saw on the ultrasound (apparently they saw lines on the cysts that are consistent with endometriomas). She said that it is a given that I need to get surgery to remove them because they are so big and don't want to take the risk of them rupturing. So she set up for me to get bloodwork and an MRI so she can get better images of exactly where they are located and the exact sizes, etc. I have another appointment with her to go over everything and to schedule the surgery (the earliest appointment with her is Oct 24, so I'm assuming surgery will be in November).

Although I'm obviously still scared I feel much more ok with the whole thing. She really explained how she'll most likely be able to do everything laproscopically but she should know for sure after the MRI. And she said that if she cannot do it that way and has to make an actual cut she always tries to do the absolute smallest she can.


@peppagrl : I never had any symptoms besides heavy periods that lasted for 6 or 7 days and cramps during my period but they were never enough to stop me from doing anything. That's why it was a HUGE surprise when they said I had these cysts. (One is 10 cm and one is 6 cm, there's one on each ovary). I also have extremely regular periods, from the time I started them they were always every 28 days with no spotting in between.

hey BeachGirl410 welcome to the group hang in there i know your scared will this be your first surgery i am looking at my 4th surgery for endometriosis soon and i am still nervous about surgery even though i have had 3 and going to have to have my 4th really soon like i said hang in there and i am here to listen if you need to talk i am looking at having a laparotomy with a long and painful recovery time this will be my first laparotomy so i am very nervous about it
