Oh my. Betweent the time I wrote that post and now, things have gone way downhill. I am having horrible horrible pains. Almost the severity of insertion except I'm not screaming out in pain. It feels like my uterus is being ripped open and there is pain shooting down my leg! I'm trying to distract myself with Tv and Internet because I highly doubt sleep will happen. But every 30 seconds I get this pain and have to curl up and bite my pillow to prevent myself from screaming. (Don't want to wake the hubby) I read this happens but this cannot be right. It cannot be healthy for something to cause this much pain! I think about calling doc tomorrow but think of the look I got when they saw how much pain I was in at insertion. That "oh come on its not that bad look" I could garuntee id be told "just wait a few days. there's nothing wrong" I can normally manage to take 1/2 to maybe 1 painkiller a day because they make me feel so blah. And today I have taken 5 since noon. And really trying to resist another. I just want to dull the pain a little! I will take the pain ive been in the last month (which has been awful) for a week rather than this pain for an hour.

Any advice?! Any at all will do!

Yes, I went into 'labour' three times, it is normal so is bleeding..it was a horrible experience and after 6 months the pain went away but the bleeding didn't...it took a good 3-ish months for it to settle down enough that I wasn't sobbing and heavily medicated. But I've had it in over a year now, between the mirena and the pill my periods are now only spotting. Better then a period - it will take time though - it can be sheer hell though. If you're really worried let doc know!

Holy cow! That sounds horrible, and to think, my doc recommended it to me. No offense taters, but your response tells me that I don't want to ever try it either! *giggles*. I am sure it works well for you.
So Casey, the shooting pain down the leg means a nerve from your back has flared up. I get that sometimes and it is a horrible, uncomfortable sensation. Hang in there, and if you want it out...don't take any shit from the doctors, ok? YOU know yourself the best. Docs don't know crap about endo.

I really sympathize with your post! I had my Mirena inserted in October while I was having a laproscopic removal of endo tissue. Luckily I didn't have to feel the insertion, but since then it has been a struggle. The doctors really pushed it; numerous doctors and nurses said how wonderful it was for taking care of endo pain. Absolutely the most excruciating pain I have ever felt came from the Mirena and those shooting pains that go from your abdomen all the way down your leg. You're not alone, if you do some research online you will find that is extremely common. I had those pains for about 4 or 5 months. Now it has been almost 8 months to the day and it does not hurt so severely anymore but it has not regulated my cycle like it is supposed to. I enjoy the fact that my fiance and I don't have to worry about children until we are prepared, but the Mirena has even made sex uncomfortable. I remember calling the doctor and telling them that if I didn't know any better, I'd think I was in labor. I really really really hope things go better for you with the Mirena. It really is different for everyone; but I just wanted you to know you aren't the only one with those symptoms. Also, if those pains don't fade and you want the Mirena out or if the doctor tries to soothe you like they have done to me I'd suggest just getting it taken out if that is the case. I'm not sure why so many of them tell patients that there will be little or no pain and promise a miracle when it's usually not that way. Good luck! Feel better soon!

I am/was willing to give mirena a chance. Especially since I am not bleeding at all (must be a good sign right?). But literally I cannot walk. And I cannot deal with 6 months of that. My house is a mess, my kids are running wild, and my husband is out of clean underwear. Its only been 3 days! How did y'all manage to live your lives in this pain for 6+ months?!

I called my doc today to ask if I needed to be seen and still waiting on a call back. The nurse asked if I could feel my strings and I hadn't thought to check. I could not find them but had my husband check before I waited for 6 hours at er. Much to my surprise he was not at all excited to do so! Hehe. Hurt like crazy and when I attempted to check, I was severely swollen in there. It took a few minutes for him to find because of swelling. Sorry for the tmi but curious if anyone else experienced it.

I had Mirena put in April of 2011. My doctor told me the same thing-that it would just be uncomfortable. I wanted to punch her in the face!! This was also almost a year before I was diagnoised with Endo. I hurt for about a week and had serious cramping...I am guessing that is because I have never had a child (which is why they used to only give Mirena to women who have given birth). Since my surgery in February, I get a lot of cramping on a very regular basis (not just from my peroid) and have quite a bit of pain from Endo. I would imanigne in your situation, with the cramping already there from the Endo along with the cramping you have from getting Mirena placed, it is just a painful combo. I hope by now you are feeling a bit better. Sounds like you do what I do when I am in pain-bite the pillow & let it pass!! It freakin SUCKS!! Please keep us updated on how you are doing!! Also, when I got Mirena placed, I still had spotting for a few months & a small bit of discharged that really annoyed the hell out of me...if you have that too, don't worry-it does go away! Feel better!!

Thank you. Sometimes I think I am feeling better sometimes I feel worse. Sucks! And I cant get a good nights sleep for the life of me!! I was ready for bed at 5pm today. The family and I had somewhere to go and didn't get home till 1130. I was still ready for bed. I was in bed first but wasn't quick enough falling asleep. Within 30 min I was sharing the bed with my husband a large dog and a cat. I had less than 1/4 of the bed to myself. Started getting horrible pains. Once I could get up I decided I needed to kick the dog out! He was taking up the rest of my half of the bed! Got him out and by the time I walked back to my bed my husband had moved to replace him. I love my husband!! And I don't know about you but in this much pain there are only certain positions that are somewhat comfortable, ANDi don't care to be touched or cuddled or legs thrown over me! Between that and the pain and my kids waking up screaming randomly sleep is impossible. :(

I normally don't come on here but I had to respond to your post when it came up in my email. It was as if I was reading my own story. I was in complete and utter hell for two weeks (it would've been a lot less time but the doctor refused to see me until then, he actually wanted me to wait three months!). Amongst all of the other horrible pain I was feeling, the wires kept popping out from behind my cervix and scratching the vaginal wall. To which the doctor told my husband to "just tuck them back again" Ugh. Anyway, long story short, two weeks of excruciating pain (where I was sitting on the couch crying nearly the entire time) I finally forced an appointment. To the doctors surprise, my mirena had pushed itself more than halfway out of my uterus! :O No wonder I was in pain! My body was rejecting it! He said he'd never seen anything like it before and promptly removed it.
I've never heard of this happening to anyone else but wanted to share my story with you. That much pain is NOT NORMAL! Also, my gf at our local endo support group here in SoCal experienced a ton of pain with her mirena but instead of her body rejecting it like mine did, hers started implanting itself in her uterus! Also not the norm but wanted you to know these things DO HAPPEN. Please go see your doc and at least have them check you to make sure none of these things are occurring. The reason that it hurts so bad for women with endo is because of the endo....before my wonderful experience with letrizole just getting a pelvic or ultrasound KILLED me...having my cervix touched made me want to cry and I would come off of the table...since being endo free for six months now pelvics dont hurt at all which is how i know the endo isnt back! I am supposed to be getting the Mirena inserted soon so I will tell you what its like for me.....I also have my annual pap coming up and im interested to see what it feels like being endo free.I highly recommment letrizole. its not easy the side effects alone could kill you...but if you ask me id rather have the uncomfortable side effects for 18 months and have a huge chance of being endo free than not....but its a personal choice...i hope you all find some pain free days!

I just got my Mirena put in today, and OMG!!! There was def NOT a disclaimer about how much it was going to f'ing hurt! The nurse had to hold my hand, I think I hurt her with my squeezing so hard! I hope everything goes well from now on, but with my luck it won't. If I remember I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for listening.

This is making me nervous.I'm having my second bunion surgery in September and they're planning on inserting Mirena while i'm under since i have horrible periods and the doctor suspects Endo(and told me Mirena should take care of the pain from that).But reading this is making me nervous about having Mirena put in and i have hypersensitivity issues when it comes to medications and stuff

I am on day 2 of my Mirena implant, and I'm FINALLY starting to feel normal. It took all morning though. If your having trouble/cramps/pain try Midol complete, worked for me when all the pain pills didn't. F'ing amazing and crazy. Good luck!

Hello I hope you feel better soon. I had mirena put it in Jan of this year
It was a little uncomfortable but I did not have the pain you describe. I felt dizzy for a couple of days and I had cramping.
I hope your Dr can see you and check that the mirena is in place and has not moved.

The mirena insertion hurt like a MF and that is the truth. I had mine put in over a year ago. I have never experience pain so bad. On top of the I got diarrhea instantly was in so much pain but I had to get up and run to the bathroom. I got overheated body just had a bad reaction I was sweating just dripping with sweat. They did an ultrasound right away cause my body temp kept rising. They said I had a bad reaction to it wanted to make sure it was inserted properly. It was then they put cold towels all over me and ice packs trying to bring my body temp down.It was the worse experience. I know I can handle pain 4 surgeries in my life and I was fine. This was just the worst. Then a few days later I got bad pain again after it was inserted. Was just bed ridden. Its been ok since then.. not great. I still have pain with it almost everyday but it stops my periods. I thought it would help more. But the doctor pushed for it. And with all I went through with inserting it I figure I will try and hold out before removing it.
