Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
- numerous ultrasounds (internal and external)
- endoscopy (x2) and colonoscopy
- CT scan
- test for celiac disease and trying an elimination diet
- test for GI function by swallowing a radioactive drink so it shows up on a scan as it goes through my system
Nothing else was ever wrong. For me, it always comes back to endo!
For me, I haven't' had a period in over a year (from aygestin), yet I still have issues on almost a daily basis. At first I had one doctor (GI) who said," well you don't have a period, so it can't be endo". But he changed his tune after my colonoscopy because not only was it extremely painful (I guess I was screaming during the procedure *sigh* how embarrassing) my colon was stiff and doesn't move like it should. It is believed that my colon is inflamed on the outside and adhered together. :-(
Also my R/E believes that all of my issues/pain are endo related, including my back pain, which is why I was referred on to get excision.
I was originally told by several other doctors that these issues couldn't possibly be endo related...
Hope you feel better soon.
After several appointments with my family doctor and a chiropractor, I finally got into a pain specialist. I got diagnosed with some pelvic alignment problem at first, got a few steroid shots, and did physical therapy. STILL PAIN.
Finally the pain specialist agreed to do an MRI. I think it's outrageous that I have excellent insurance and had to wait 3 years for an MRI. Well it turns out I had two bulging discs that were clearly impeding on nerves.
I got a lumbar epidural injection and had zero pain within a week. I was pregnant the next month and didn't have any pain until late pregnancy. As soon as my son was born I started with a new chiropractor that really worked with me and we invested in a sleep number bed.
4 years later I have NO back pain (and no pain killers!)
So my point is....it could be something else. If your body is telling you it isn't endo keep searching and pushing for answers.
Endo pain can be bad any time, depends on how it manifests in your body. Some women only have period pain, some have ovulation + period pain, some have it all the time and flare-ups from certain foods, and some have it all the stinkin' time no matter what. SOME HAVE NO PAIN and find out they have Endo at the fertility clinic, trying to explain why they haven't gotten pregnant yet.
