can you get 10m/325? thats too much tylenol if you double your current dose. I take vic during the day then percocet after Iam home from work(pt). Can you go to pain clinc? your doc should know that over time pain meds stop working as well.

You could try breaking a percocet in half and then taking a vicoden, too. I know it is still 10 mg. of meds, but since vicoden is a weaker medication it will help you reduce. Then take less and less percocet until you are just taking vicoden. It will be less effective since you started taking the percocet, but not as ineffective as it is now. That's what I did after a two week hospitalization on a continuous morphine drip. I was sent home with oral morphine and managed to get back down to a 10 mg percocet. Sadly, once you have gotten used to the heavy stuff, the lighter stuff never works as well again. Also, regarding the tylenol issue - you can take up to 1000 mg. of tylenol four times daily. My husband is a PA and he tells his patients: don't take more than 1,000 mg. at once and don't take more than 4,000 mg. in a 24 hour period. That much is not great on a long term basis, though. I would recommend talking to your doctor about this. I was given what is essentially percocet without the tylenol last month by my pain doctor. Then you don't have to worry about the exposure at all. There are way better meds than vicoden that don't wear off so quickly but you might need to see a pain specialist to learn all your options. My general practitioner was willing to give them to me before I got my pain doctor, but she's pretty unique. Sorry to ramble about things you didn't really ask! Good luck in getting what you need!

Some people pay cash and see a candy doctor. Ask around and see if there are any other doctors in your area that have no problem writing scrips. Your insurance probably won't cover it, but you can pay cash. It might be another way to get what you need.

Thanks for the answers. I'll try a few suggestions. Doubling my current dose IS too much tylenol, which is why I was wanting to make one dose effective again. Don't want liver problems along with endo. I'm planning on telling her 5mg does not work anymore and asking for 10mg. I'll stick with Vicodin, since she doesn't seem to like prescribing percocet at all, and I think if she gave me 10/325 Vicodin, I'd be okay. Percocet is strong, but its also closely related to Vicodin enough that I could stop taking it and stick with only Vicodin and not have withdrawals if they gave me at least 10mg. 5mg will not do at all. I may HAVE to go to a pain clinic, but the ones in my area are full of dumbass docs scared to script opiates.

That sucks. The first pain doctor I saw also didn't prescribe opiates WTF? They remain the most effective treatment for pain IMHO. Prescribed and taken properly the addiction risk is minimal. I should know. I've been taking opiates continuously for over 3 years and I have yet to start blowing guys in alleys just to get a fix! In fact, I own two businesses and raise a child and take care of a household BY MYSELF (don't get me started on the husband). I don't get high. Without opiates, I can't get out of bed. So I ask you, which is better a functional life on opiates or an existence where I am completely disabled by pain? The first pain doc I saw wanted me to visualize the pain going away. She was a marathon runner who looked like she had never had a day of pain in her whole life. Seriously, she bopped into my appointments with her lidocaine patches and steroid shots. I visualized all right. I visualized ripping her head off and stuffing it in my briefcase... Sorry - I guess you touched a nerve. I really hope that you get the help you need. With my current pain doctor, I document my medication usage along with all the other stuff I do to manage the pain - PT, yoga, meditation, diet, etc. I feel like he is a partner. He informed me on my first visit that he is not a "candy doctor" but that he was also not afraid to prescribe what his patients need. We sometimes argue - he's clueless about endo - but when I need to I bring in articles to show him about all the places endo can grow so he gets that is what is causing my back and rib pain. Okay, I will now climb down off my very tall soapbox...I really hope your doctor understands and gives you the stronger med. And if she doesn't just give her my number and I will open up a good 'ol can of whup-ass!
