I am a bit worried. I will give you a back story. I had an Ectopic Pregnancy Aug 3rd, prior to that I had bleed for 2 months ( I thought it was my endo acting up) After the ectopic I found out that I had a mass and Cyst the size of baseballs on my right ovary ( which was the same side my Ectopic was in)

After the ectopic I bleed for one more day and stopped. I went 44 days without a period. Now I started the 5th of October and I am still bleeding. The problem is my surgery is October 26th. I am hoping the bleeding stops so I can have my surgery.

Now my question is, where you ever on your period and they still proceeded with your surgery or did it have to get postponed? Im just worried bc my husband had to take 4 days off work and after October the rest of the year is blacked out at work ( so he cant take any days off in Nov Dec or Jan)

Well I can't say that I had that happen, so I don't really know. What I can tell you though is that I know my doctor never, not once, asked me if I was bleeding or anything when I had my surgery. Not once. One day I was in the ER and two days later I had my surgery. So although I can't say I know for sure for you, I know my dr. didn't care.

I believe I've read stories from other women who have been on their periods during their surgery. I recall something about what kind of padding they used during the surgery.. here's a yahoo answers (everyone's favorite, i know - haha)

Best way to find out is to call into your doctor's office and either speak with your doctor or one of the nurses, I'm sure they would be able to answer your question. Good luck!

Ashley, I had surgery while on my period once before...apparantly it helps them as everything is more irritated and out in the open (more visible).
They can still go ahead =)

I was never bleeding during any of my three surgeries but I also was never told I couldn't have the surgery if I was. Vaginal bleeding shouldn't impeed anything they do during surgery...& like someone already said...it would probably make it easier to see the endo.

Oh also I meant to ask...so do you still have those masses on your ovary? I started bleeding sept 12 & was still bleeding until last Friday when I got the depo provera shot. I have two 1 inch in diameter cysts on my right ovary. I wasn't sure if those could be causing the irregular periods and bleeding or not.

Hi,

I just went to my doctor yesterday for my pre-op appointment of my first lap. It is scheduled for Nov. 2 and I am due for my period around that time. So I did ask him. He said that they will still be able to do it and it would just probably make me a little uncomfortable since I wouldn't have any panties on. However, he did say, that since it will be around my period, they might notice cysts on my ovaries which he knows is nothing to be concerned about because my two ultra sounds showed nothing.

Thank you Ladies, you have been very helpful! Christine I do still have the mass and cyst on my right ovary. I figured thats what was causing the bleeding too, just wanted to make sure she wouldnt cancel the surgery due to that. I called the doctors office, my doctor is out of town till the Friday, so they want me to call them then and let them know if I am still bleeding.
