I'm confused about birth control pills

I was always told that birth control pills prevent ovulation and maintain your hormone level. So when you have your period, it isn't really your period, it is simply withdrawal bleeding because you stopped taking the pills and your hormone levels dropped.

But why then does my body still "know" when my period is coming even before I stop the pills? I break out, crave junk, and am in more pain for a few days before I stop taking the pills. Does this mean the pills aren't working like they should?

Hello! Yes, you are right in the fact that that the pill does suppress ovulation so if you stop your pack for a bleed, it's what they call a reassurance bleed, it's not a real period. The manufacturers of the pill do this for those women who want to have the feeling of having a "normal" cycle. For people like me who use the pill to treat my endo, I take it continual, I never have a break or this bleed.
How long have you been on the pill? Maybe it's just taking awhile for your system to get used to it? Sometimes pills are like clothes, you have to try afew before you find the one that "fits" for you. I wouldn't say that the pill isn't working though.

The pill is definitely working. My periods are so much lighter and shorter on the pill. My body did not want to do the continual thing. I just bled all the time. I just find it odd that even before I stop the pill, my body seems to know it is time for a period and my endo symptoms act up.
