Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
Also, here they DO TREAT on the first appointment! So be prepared for that. It won't be as full a session as the next, but they should treat you here.
@ Whyme123 - I am speaking of the money issues because Taters and I are in the same boat, that we NEED to get all we can out of each appointment as we cannot afford to go as often as recommended. So there is a difference to women who can afford more appointments (I do not know if you can or not, but we certainly can't). As SSWarning also suggested, to get the most out of it we would do well to avoid any pain meds until after the therapy.
By the way sweetie not sure any of us have told you but the pain can get increasingly more uncomfortable in the hours AFTER the treatment. So if you feel like you could tolerate it but it was pushing your limits, go ahead and take something right away afterwards xx
Basically, if you can liken your muscles to a light switch, when we experience chronic pain our muscles respond to that and stay in a "switched on" position permanently. So the therapy helps to break the pain cycle, to allow us to "switch off" the muscles that are not needed. If a woman stays in a constant state of being tensed, then she will experience greater pain as that of itself causes pain. Then she becomes even more sensitive to it, and more pain signals are sent. So she tenses up more..... etc etc.... THis is NOT physcological, but a physiological reaction. I had a wonderful little article about pelvic floor hypotonicity by femalepatient.com but for some reason it won't come up. You can try googling pelvic floor myalgia. The pain that comes with it can get pretty intense (I birthed a posterior baby vaginally and still had my pelvic floor muscles being overly toned!) If you have this, it will just add to the pains you already experience. Therapy will NOT help endo pain, but it WILL help the extra pain resulting from our bodies reaction to being in chronic pain. It helps me so much with internal exams, sex, cramps in general, exercise... absolutely everything! xx
