Hysterectomy

Hello lovely ladies!!!


I'm thinking of having a hysterectomy. Just being done with everything. I don't think my life plan involves children, although I have always liked the idea of having them and being diagnosed with endo made me almost want them more, thinking that I couldn't have them. Lately though, my sights have been set on different things - travel, early retirement, self sustainable living, and I am really questioning, do I want to pass along this bloodline, with so many diseases in it? Including endo? I wouldn't wish this upon anyone, much less my children or grandchildren. I have a big family with lots of kiddos in it and more to come I'm sure. Also, since I want to be retiring early and traveling the world, do kids really fit into my plan? So anyway, Yeah, I have been considering a hysterectomy. I wouldn't want to do the hormone replacement therapy, so I would go straight into menopause. I'm thinking that if I keep taking care of myself, then menopause maybe would be manageable. Might as well get it over with and have a better quality of life. Any thoughts? Oh and I'll be 28 in Jan. No kids, stage 4 endo, and after my last lap the dr told me that both of my fallopian tubes were blocked, which he cleared up, but that I wouldn't have been able to have kids even if I wanted to.

I should specify, a total hysterectomy. Removing the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus and prob cervix since I have had two abnormal paps.

I say go for it. I'm seriously considering one, too. And good for you, for thinking twice about whether you want to pass on your genetics to anyone! Too many people have kids for selfish reasons and don't think enough about whether they'd want their children to go through the same health hardships they themselves have.
If you haven't heard of them, Hyster Sisters is a great support website to visit if you're thinking about a hysterectomy. Lots of advice & first-person accounts from people who've had partial or total hysterectomies!

If the question of whether you want to have your own kids or not is still up in the air, think of it this way: you could always adopt after a hysterectomy, and you'll probably be a better, more patient mom if you're not hurting from endo all the time!

Getting pregnant as an endometriosis sufferer is (as you probably already know) often a painful, frustrating and discouraging process. Good for you for hanging your priorities elsewhere and considering all of your options!

I had a hysterectomy three years ago (I was 30 and already had kids). I had many complications with the surgery and ended up having 4 more surgeries that year and 6 months laid up. Now 3 years later the endomertiosis is back, worse than before. Do your research, keep in mind it is not necessarily a cure and surgery is not something to take lightly. Do background checks on the surgeon and make sure you exhaust all other options. Good luck.

Hey Hey Hey!!! Thank yall for the replies. Long story short, I went to he doctor and decided not to have a hysterectomy, because as you stated Jackiwlod, I had not exhausted all other options yet. I basically have tried all the medications, pain meds, except for lupron, which I straight up refuse to take. The side effects and consequences are not worth it to me at all. Anyway, I've been on a natural journey with my endo and have had my ups and downs, most recently being a down, but I also was not doing everything that I needed to do and was eating what tasted good instead of nourished my body. I gained some happy weight from a new relationship. Anyway, I had a flare up and was in pain again, so got really strict with myself again and have started to feel better and I am now on almost 1 week of natural progesterone cream. We'll see how that goes. So far so good, besides the hot flashes and occasional pain due to the estrogen receptors being reactivated in my body and myself having a estrogen dominance. My BF came with me to the dr and the dr was like "have yall considered having kids? For some women it gets better after children"....ugh....I mean I get it, it is the old school mentality and this Dr was pretty old school, but I liked him overall. Anyway, I was like...no not for 4 or 5 years....if that....so anyway, no hysterectomy because I haven't tried everything.
