Hi, I'm becoming a regular. 6 wks after being diagnosed, I have tons of questions and decisions to make. FINALLY I had an appointment with a fertility specialist who is used to dealing with endo.

He recommended I have an HSG to test if my one remaining tube is open. Has anyone else done this? It doesn't sound like a great procedure, I'm somewhat tempted to just go for it and try to concieve on our own without the HSG.
Then again, the doc for my lap said that my other tube didn't have the open "fingers" like she would have liked to have seen. This is an early sign of endo, right?

I kind of feel like his recommendation is a personal decision. What have you decided, why, and what's happened since?

Thank you for the advice, I need some opinions today.

I plan to get an HSG my OBGYN says they have good success with women getting pregnant after the procedure and although it doesn't help with the endo if there is any blockage it will usually unblock it. However it is not a comfortable procedure and my OBGYN said that you will probably want to take the day off and possibly the next it causes severe cramping. Also there are 2 options with it the 10 day rule and the no ten day rule, 10 day rule you can still try to conceive during that month as they do it while you have your period however it gives a smaller window to do the procedure therefore might take longer, the no ten day rule you can probably get it done sooner but you are not allowed to try to conceive that month because they do it whenever they can get you in and it increases risk of miscarriage if you are in fact pregnant... hope this helps

I had an HSG a few months ago. It wasn't comfortable by any means, but it is a very quick procedure and right there they can tell you if your tubes are open. They say take ibproffen before the procedure that it really helps, I thought it did help. After the procedure my RE decided that I need to have a tube removed because my ENDO enlarged the tube and an enalrge tube increases odds for an etopic pregnancy. I have had my tube removed, but because of the severity of my ENDO we just did a cycle of IVF.

Gulp, sounds like I should do it. Man, these procedures suck. I feel like I've had too many procedures done already.
Thanks for telling me how uncomfortable it is. My doc said none of that. Man, they are such sales people around here. Still, I knew it would hurt.

I would go ahead and do it. When I did my HSG I took 4 Advil about an hour before and it wasn't bad at all. Yes, it is uncomfortable, but as far as pain it wasn't too bad. However, both my tubes were open so the fluid when right through.

I have mild endo and have had 2 and am waiting for the third this summer. I personally hate them. But then again my uterus gets super annoyed when anything breaks through so I cramp ALOT. The less dye the better.
