Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
I didn't eat anything for a few days only on a liquid diet. I know that sounds nuts. But, I had it in my head that if I eat or chew gum I'll introduce air into my bowel. I was on a liquid diet of teas, jello, sherbert, chicken broth. I avoided dairy, creamy, fatty food completely. I also drink warm stuff whenever I had a 'liquid meal', then followed with cold stuff (I also do this when my tummy aches). I drank a lot of herbal teas, which I still do now.
Like acahellokitty recommends, I also walked around as much as possible to get the bowels moving. I had horrible air in the bowel the day after and one month after my laparotomy in October 2010. It is the most painful thing ever, worst than the endo pain ever!
And, the number one thing I will always stick to even when I need future surgeries is to avoid narcs! It will slow your gut down big time. I know that's hard for some people, but I was so scared to have that pain again.
When I was constipated, I took a Bisacodyl at night, ate prunes (with the juice in it warmed) in the morning with oatmeal, and drank plenty of water. You can add grapefruit or orange to kick it up.
When I did all of these, I haven't had a bout of ileus (gas in the abdomen) this time.
