I don't see how that would help at all. It doesn't stop estrogen so therefore it isn't going to stop endo growth.

Good point, but I was just thinking that it would stop any excess growth from getting outside of the uterus. So I was just curious to see if anyone had done this and what the results were. It would be interesting to see.

Since nobody knows for sure how the endo cells get outside of the uturus, and there is evidence to suggest that these cells may implant themselves outside of the uturus during fetal development, before we are ever born.....then probably would not help. Also what is there if not removed, will just continue to grow and create pain because the ovaries will be right there to supply them with plenty of estrogen.

The prevailing theory is that you're born with your endo. The cells aren't exactly the same as the ones that are in your uterus which pretty much blows the theory of retrograde menstruation off the table. It's not worth it, unless it's to prevent pregnancy. Honestly the less you're in there messing around in there the better off you'll be.

Everyone I've heard who has done it too says their periods become worse. I don't think that's worth it. Just to add :)

I had my tubes tied, but only to get pregnant. The endo damaged my tubes and it turns out that stretched tubes can cause toxic fluid to seep into the uterus during a pregnancy, so I had my tubes tied to then have IVF to then have a baby.

No, it did not improve my endo other than my surgeon did a lap to tie the tubes and the lap did remove a lot of scar tissue which helped me feel better.

I agree with Kdeezy. There is no scientific evidence to support Sampson's theory of retrograde mentruation. It is estmiated that 70-90% of women have retrograde mentruation, yet only about 10% of us have endo.
Furthermore, endo is not the same as the lining of the uterus. It pathologically differnt, though similar.

Another thing is that there have been studies on postmorteum female fetuses (passed for other reasons) and in 2 seperate studies (though small scale) about 10% were found to have endo, Also recently a 7 year old who hasn't even started menstruating yet has been surgically confirmed to have endo (really sad)...

I would also like to point out that the experts in the feild generally agree that endo doesn't spread. It can deepen (which means yes it progresses) but it won't spread. The theory, like Kdeezy mentioned is that we are born with all the endo we will ever have. It is beleived the tracks for endo are laid down early on in development.

I think though it is an interesting thought and I can see why you were wondering, if you are thinking about surgery anyway your best bet is to find someone who specializes in the excision of endo.

When removed fully through excision (not abaltion) to the root the sucess rate of these types of surgeries can be as high as 85% (which is a much higher success rate than abaltion). Just keep in mind that there are surgeons out there who claim they can excise the disease but if they are not skilled in recognizing all forms of the disease (as endo has several different looks to it) then it possible disease can be missed. This is exactly what happened to me. I went to a surgeon who is skilled and is able to excise disease but failed to recognize that my bowels had disease on them. Now Im looking into a 3rd surgery...
