Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
I am 28. On December 4th I had a D&C and lap done due to my very irregular and painful periods. That is when I was diagnosed with moderate endometriosis. When I was out of recovery my doc told me what it was and said if I ever wanted to have kids that I better not wait any longer. She said she wasn't't able to remove much except a small lesion. But she made me feel hopeful. When I went back in for my follow up, she discussed putting me on Lupron right away. I declined and said I would like to try naturally before I do any more hormones. That is when she made it sound like there wasn't much probability or hope. I ask questions and she gives such little detail or no answer at all. Not that there is anything wrong with foreign Docs (I love her) I just wish I could understand her tone and expressions better. Anyone with any insight, suggestions, or just an ounce of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I come from a very big family with everyone for generations being very fertile. ( my mom had 6, maternal gma 7, paternal gma 6, and all bros and sisters with multiple kids) I have never pictured myself not having kids. I feel like my womanhood is being ripped away. My last period was Nov 29 right before surgery. Did anyone have a normal cycle after lap? Thanks for anyone who replies in advance!
As far as periods after lap, i tend to bleed for 2 months straight after surgery so needless to say everyone is different, but one thing is the same. ... the surgery does mess with your hormones so your cycle may need time to adjust. Sending love, hugs and happy thoughts your way
But you shouldnt be rushed into any big decisions! You deserve answers! And unless having your reproductive organs is a risk to your life then you should be allowed to keep them if you want. Just think it over to see what YOU think you should do because its up to you :-)
I know a ton of women who have had no problem getting pregnant with endo, but alot of women have some trouble too. You should look into a specialist, get their opinion. There are reproductive specialists too.
Ive had 3 laps, my first two my cycles came right back, but this last one I had in Nov has me all screwed up right now but i think thats mostly my bod not liking the new birth control.
Sorry this is so long! I just HATE when docs give us endo sisters hell, they all just want to prescribe lupron and hystos when there could still be chance for concieving.
Do what you feel is right, not what the doc tells you. Its all about finding the right doc who suits you. It took me 3yrs to find my ideal doc, i hope you find yours soon! Or your current one will work with you! **HUGS!**
I started Femara with an add-back right after my lap so I didn't get my period right away. But I'd say it returned about 2 months after my surgery.
Susan Sarandon, who has endometriosis, was told she'd never have kids and she ended up having 3 without fertility treatments. And Victoria Beckham has PCOS and was told she'd never have kids, but ended up having 4. My mom had endometriosis and she had one miscarriage and 3 kids all without fertility treatment. So just because you're told you can't have kids doesn't mean you should give up hope.

Anyways I agree with the other ladies! Don't rush into a treatment you aren't comfortable with. The doctor who did my first surgery said have kids NOW or not at all and that I'd need a hysterectomy in the next few years too. I've seen two other doctors since and neither of them supported his opinion. I'm currently seeing a specialist and he is hopefully going to do my second lap and he's pretty confident I could have children and not even need a C-section (fibroid surgery makes it more likely). That's a long ways from the first doc who recommended a hysterectomy (and lupron)!
I would highly recommend seeing an endometriosis specialist and get his or her opinion on your best options to preserve fertility and keep the endo at bay. When the time comes for you to have children if it doesn't happen naturally seek out a reproductive endocrinologist. There is a topic not too far back of women who conceived even with endo, it happens!
If you really really want children, just save up for fertility treatments because you may need them thanks to your lovely endo condition. BUT! It's definitely possible to get pregnant naturally with endo, and with fertility treatments it's much more likely you can get pregnant well into your 30's (sometimes 40's although our fertility dwindles in our 40's).
So don't feel pressured, my OB GYN gave me that speech too, and we just weren't ready at the time. That's ok, It's your body, your decisions. They just need to tell us up front so there are no suprises.
