I was on Deprovia for at least 6 months then switched to yasmine.

I am currently on depo provera, and have since may...nothing else worked for me, so it was kind of a last resort to stop the pain!!! so far it is working very well for me...I just get irritable when its time for my next shot and I gained some weight...I just don't know how long I should stay on it for....plus I don't like the idea that I haven't had a period in almost a year....any long term effects??

For those who did switch...why did you switch? Did your gyno tell you to or did you decide yourself

I had my lap in August of 07 and went directly on depo. I had one period in November that was HORRIBLE. Unfortuantely for me the pain went away for a bit, then came back really bad at the beginning of 2008. After much research I have switch to Lupron which is not a birth control, but has put my body into meopause. If I was to have sex, not that I have any interest, I would have to use another form of b/c.

I do wonder what type of b/c I will be put on when my six months of Lupron are up...

ok haha i havnt added mine yet! well i just got my third shot this last monday and so far its been ok i think but that night i was having a hard time sleeping due to major uterine contractions, id never really had them before, has anyone else with or without the shots experienced this? also i always get yeast infections after my shot so im always prepared with yogurt and such when i have it.
i almost switched to the nuva ring after reading some blog entries but my doctor said if i did i would be back at square one and it takes about a year to work to shut down my ovaries so im going with another 6 months crossing my fingers

I was on Depro provera since 2003. This is the longest I've ever gone without having surgery. I quit taking it in August because I was getting break through bleeding anyway so I knew the endo was growing again. I didn't gain more than 10lbs in the last 4 years, but all women are different because we all have different levels of hormones. The only side effect that bothered me was decreased sex drive. I was also on depo provera before I was diagnosed with endo and it didn't help then because I hadn't had surgery to clear out the endo then.

I was on Depo off and on for 15 years, with the longest span being 8 years. It was the magic shot for me, taking away the pain and the periods for a long time, but eventually it stopped working and the breakthrough bleeding became unmanageable! (20 days out of the month)
The worst side effects for me were lack of sex drive (my poor husband), acne, PMS and some weight gain - but I have tried hard to keep it under control. I was nervous about staying on it for so long, but I had 2 doctors say it was OK to stay on long-term.
Nothing else I have tried worked as well for me, and I think I tried everything except Lupron.

I was on it for about 6 months maybe a little longer. I was using it strictly for birth control then. No endo problems. I think I tried the Patch after that, and then didn't use anything for like 4 years.

I was on it to stop my periods, because they were so bad. I was bleeding so much, so I received 3 shots to stop my bleeding, instead of having a hysterectomy. The bleeding was caused from large fibroids. My doctor, being a female, gave me the shots first, before major operation. For me it worked. After 3 shots we stopped, and my period never came back. I was in my early 50's, so it threw me in menopause, which I wanted. I was SO happy. I put about 10 lbs on, but once I stopped the shots, and I watched what I ate, the weight came off fast.

I started the depo may 1st and I have been bleeding ever since and my emergency gyne appointment is scheduled for october 6, tell me bleeding for how many months isn't an emergency!! I will not take another dose of the depo, no way!!

Tracy, I agree. I mean it's a birth control to stop your periods. I'm sure you are fine, but obviously some people just can't take it. good luck.
