I have endo and severe adhesions (some of which attached my bowel to my uterus). Before I knew that, I had a gastro dr. INSIST I did not have endo related bowel problems and did a colonoscopy to see if I had crohns or celiac disease (I cannot eat wheat at all).
The colonoscopy was the most horrible experience of my life. I was also screaming and kept asking why it hurt so much/for more meds. He just shoved the thing through and said 'it shouldn't hurt'.
After he said 'we found nothing, you have IBS and sent me on my way.
When I went to the surgeon he actually laughed at the doc and said 'You cannot diagnose IBS with a colonoscopy" and did a lap. When he saw my bowel attached to my uterus he confirmed that when i had my colonoscopy, the doctor was basically ripping my bowel from my uterus.
That is my story and it sounds identical to yours. I didn't have pain after really as bad as during, but was incredibly sore for days (again, something the stupid gastro dr said was 'impossible').
Have you had a lap? I would suggest one.

O my word. That does sound identical!!!
I had a really nice Dr, but I can remember never ever experiencing that kind of pain. I had 3 nurses on me holding me down and I did not have a clue what was going on. Worst of all I couldn't even talk I was just screaming and moaning.
They insisted i had IBS and as I have said before put me on a HUGE list of drugs that only did more harm then good. Nothing has worked. And I do not have the normal symptoms of IBS.

I had a lap last year in July but I am under the impression the Dr only looked around my ovaries. Besides my bowel symptoms were no were near as bad as they started to be 6months after. When I explained my bowel symptoms he said theres no way it's the endo.

A year later.. I beg to differ.

I had very a similar experience with my colonoscopy yesterday! I was crying on the table! The nurse just looked at me like I was crazy! I wouldn't rank it a 10, but it was probably an 8/10! And My grandmother said "Oh, I didn't feel a thing." Guess she's lucky?

On the other hand, I still don't know anything, but it's nice to see some similar results with the colonoscopy.

Huh. Same thing happened to me when I had my colonoscopy in April. All I could do was yell "OW ! OW! OW!". Then after the thing was almost done they gave me more sedative and I fell asleep at the very end. I was not happy.

So do you guys think the pain was because of the endo attached or what?

obviously I cant say for certain, but it does appear to be a possibility. I will know more after my lap. If my bowel is involved then I would say its very likely thats why I had such a horrible colonoscopy experience.

i so cant believe that they dont knock you out for a colonoscopy over there thats wicked. i have had 3 and have been knocked out each time. endo could have something to do with it or adhesions i have bad bowels movements but they say they cant find anything in the colonoscopy so i believe its adhesions sticking it to me .

My mom has had many colonoscopies and a couple while not completely under. She does not have endo, but she said that if you are not all the way out you will feel it, and it is horrible pain. It is a case of the anesthesia working differently on different people. My dad has them with the normal anesthesia, I think Demorol, and it knocks him out. I had a couple of procedures prior to my colonoscopy and was awake and in pain, so my mom (I'm 41) insisted that the doctor put me all the way under with an anesthesiologist present. I had no problems with the colonoscopy. It may be that those of you who had problems and felt it need a different medicine to put you out. Please research it, and don't let them do another one unless they promise to put you under. My mom says that she doesn't want anybody to go through that kind of pain.

As for me, I still have unexplained pain sometimes in my abdomen, especially when a doctor examines me. I have had a colonoscopy, transvaginal ultrasound, pelvic ultrasound. All they found was small cysts. I am on Coumadin for a DVT blood clot and am trying to put off laproscopy until I come off.

Is laproscopy the only way to diagnose endometriosis?

the pain i was particularly feeling was that of exruciating on a scale of 10 out 10. i personally think for me its because something is just not right. they have looked on the inside and it was ok. a lil inflammed but they have not looked out on the outside.

can bowel endo put pressure on your bowels from the outside?

yes it sure can tori...
thats is what is said to also cause constipation..

I am new to this group, but wanted to let you know that you are not alone. In early April 09, I had a colonscopy b/c was having lower back pain, pelvic pain and extreme constipation. I never dreamed it could have been due to my endo b/c I was on continuous birthcontrol. I can still vividly remember lying on the table during the procedure with tears rolling down my face begging them to stop or to give me more of the "sediative coctail" they gave me. Of course, I don't think they beleived me. I was told "don't worry dear, we are almost done, you will be fine". I stayed in pain for atleast a week after the procedure. I finally went to my gyno and told him about my experience and sicne it had been 6 years since my last lap, we decided it was time to do another one (this was my 3rd one). Well, low and behold when he went in there my descending colon was attached to my left ovary which was fused to my pelvic wall. Neither doctor confirmed nor denied, but I firmly believe the pain was from the scope from the colonoscopy pulling the colon away from my ovary. I truely believe the two were related.

As some others have said on other posts, you have to listen to what your body is telling you. If your doctor looks at you like you are crazy, I suggest you find a doctor who will listen to you and not make you feel like it is "all in your head".

As a side note, I actually feel worse since my last lap surgery. I have since switched to a neuro-GI b/c my lasat GI told me "this is as good as it is going to get, you just a double whammy with both endo and IBS-c" ugh! I love my new doctor! He listens and beleives me. He believes that there is more going on with my bowels and endo. He is referring me to a gyn who specializes in endo and bowel issues! I can't wait to see him and figure out what is really going on:-)

Thanks for letting me ramble. Everyone on this site is so nice. It makes me feel so much better to know that there are others out there who truly understand what I am going thru. We just need to keep the faith!!

welcome to the group and thank you for your post. i'm going to see my new gyne consultant tomorrow and i intend on sharing the helpful stories people have shared. i've come to the point where i'm not taking no for an answer.
i've not said anything for 10months after my old gyne said my pain was pyschosamtic. Now it's worse and now my bowels and bladder have been severely comprimised.
