My adhesions were removed via a laparoscopy which was through 3 small incisions...my belly button and two tiny ones near my pubic area. However, I was having surgery to remove Endometriosis as well, not just for adhesion pain. You really should talk to your doctor about what the surgery entails so you can make an informed decision if it is worth it or not. Also, the dye injection cannot be anymore painful than living with daily adhesion pain!

How did your doctor diagnose the adhesions? it is probably a good bet you have them (as most people who get pelvic surgery develop them and especially if you have endometriosis), but as far as I know there is no diagnostic test to find adhesions until you get a laparoscopy.

I have severe adhesions and have never heard of a dye test to check them, and I see specialists, but maybe they don't know about this.

As far as adhesions do go, I have read a lot about them and the basic rule is this: more surgeries = more adhesions. Therefore, the only time you should have surgery is initially to diagnose and detach them or if an adhesion is causing a problem (besides pain, like an attached organ that can't function).
If you are trying to conceive and have adhesions, I would suggest a TUBAL DYE TEST, which is where they put dye through your fallopian tubes to ensure that they are free when they do the lap.
In terms of adhesions and conceiving, unless they are distorting your ovaries or fallopian tubes, generally they will not cause infertility.
There is physiotherapy available for adhesion pain relief, as well as acupuncture, which has helped me tremendously, as I can't have more surgery or more will develop.

I would strongly recommend having a very trained surgeon work on the surgery and adhesions, as the less skilled a doctor is, the more likely you are to end up with more adhesions and in more pain.

I had an emergency c-section in 1997 and had stomach problems but didn't know why. In 1998 I had another c-section. The second child I wanted a regular delivery but I had burning sensation and pain at the incision so the doctor opt for another c-section. After delivery my dr. had to burn my scar tissue adhesions for a half in hour. From there on I had adhesion problems. I have gone to specialists and all have said the same once you have adhesions you will continue to have lap surgery to remove them. I have had multiple laps and other incisions due to scar tissue attaching to other organs and then causing major problems. It is a continual battle. I do suffer from a lot of burning and pulling from the incision sites. About every two years I have lap surgery to remove the adhesions. I try to go longer but the pain gets worse. I have had organs attached to each other by adhesions and that gets painful. I do have 13 incisions from scar tissue adhesions and two scars from c-sections. I can tell you my lower stomach area looks very unattractive but thankfully my husband doesn't even get bothered by it. I wish you the best. The test is called a hysterosalpingogram. My doctor says it's the only way to see the adhesions, although I know it's mainly used to diagnose other infertility issues. She says I need to have this done so she can see where the adhesions are.
She diagnosed me with adhesions because of the severe pain I have around my c-section scar, even though my son is 6 1/2 years old.

The HSG test is what Utah was referring to. They have done that everytime I have had a lap to see if my tubs are clear. I have heard that they do it as an outpatient procedure for infertility testing, but I never knew they could detect adhesions this way. After reading more online about it I wonder why more doctors are not ordering this to be done for us Endo gals???
