Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
Have you been to a pain clinic? Talk to a pelvic pain specialist. There are a variety of nerve block options to help with severe endo pain. I was in the same position as you, and was desperate! The pelvic pain specialist saved me - he performed a superior hypogastric plexus block and my pain went from a 6-8 daily to a 1 or 2! That's not the only option either. So while it seems reasonable to only see your GYN for endo, I'd urge you to seek out a pain specialist.
Good luck and don't give up!!
It sounds like you don't want kids. That's ok, and a smart choice! Get a second opinion from a different Doctor. One who listens to you.
My husband encountered the same bias as a young man trying to get a vasectomy-- his dr. wouldn't do it because he thought my husband would change his mind and want kids! We had to shop around for a dr. who really listened to him.
Another way to think of it is this: imagine keeping your uterus, having a kid in hopes that the pregnancy will make your endo better, and then finding out that the pain's just as bad after having a kid-- it could really impact your ability to be a good mom!
Listen to your heart and your body: you deserve relief from this pain, and if a dr. thinks hysterectomy could make things better, it might be the better option.
