thank you so much for posting this!!! i just had a radical hysterectomy at the end of october. i can't tell you how great it is to hear from people who have had one and had success. it really gives me confidence in the decision i made. thank you, thank you, thank you!

sabby, just to let you know what i did, i had everything taken out. cervix, uterus, tubes, ovaries. it's all gone. and i feel great just 3 weeks later.

I just had the uterus, doc said if i continue to have pain he would remove an ovarie but so far so good. I honestly think that hysterectomy for endo is ok and i have no regrets. we are all diff and have diff amounts and frequencies of pain. i support your decision and hope that you feel better-keep me posted

Yes, thank you so very much for posting. I've been trying to hold off, but finally decided I'm going to go for it. My husband and I will see my doctor Wednesday to go over everything and I'm hoping to schedule the surgery for January. We will remove all, but the ovaries.
Thanks again for your post. I am getting a lot of support from family members who also have endo, but still it was nice to ready your post and responses.

I had a hysterectomy on 9-20-11 with removal of left ovary and cervix. I had 3 laps before that (one with an excision specialist). None ever really helped the daily, chronic pain.

For the women who had hysterectomy, did you have good days and bad days after the surgery?

After the hysterectomy, I had 2 months and 3 days of no pain, but I am having pain again in spite of being on 200mg of progesterone daily (have to take that for 6 months to "kill off" any "microscopic disease" according to my doctor). I had actually started to have hopes and dreams about life again (maybe moving, maybe finally having the stamina to work full-time again). I have battled this disease for 10 years, darn it!!!

This is not a great place to be mentally, I just want to have some hope that the pain will lessen and I can finally get my life back.
I would welcome any advice that women who've had a hysterectomy would choose to share (already a member on hystersisters and that is helpful too). Thank you for any information!

In my post above, I'm referring to my "head space" right now when talking about not a great place-- in no way am I slamming this forum because it has helped me so much. Worried that people may read that in a way I didn't intend.

Charleston, I am so sorry that the hysterectomy didnt help you with your pain. i couldnt imagine taking such a huge step and then having it not work out, its hard to imagine where one would go from there. Is your pain at least any lesser?

I had 2 months (roughly) of no pain, but last week the pain level scared the crap out of me. This week the pain is better but I still feel it some. I'm going to track the pain and see if it occurs around the same time next month because I wonder if maybe my body was "having a period" even though my cervix and uterus (and one ovary and tube) were removed. As my disease progressed my periods were really brutal (even though I was on continuous birth control). But, I'm trying to stay strong and I tell myself that I battled chronic, daily pain for 10 years (3 surgeries, one of them excision) due to stage III endo and I can battle for a bit longer. I do have hope that the pain will subside and I still would have had the hysterectomy (because at least I'm not battling the constant bleeding on top of everything else). I am thankful that you posted about your hysterectomy because it does give me hope. Thanks for sharing your story!

I am only 30 so they were trying to talk me out of it. I am doing the depo shots and they have helped some of the intensity of the pain but its still there from time to time. I also dont have time to take off of work for a hystorectomy so ugh I guess this will have to do for now. Glad it worked for you though!!!

I had one in 2000, I was pain free for one glorius year! Then more endo, adhesions, more surgery. Iam in pain everyday and in pain mgt, so it didnt work for me, but it DOES work for some.Glad for those it helped.
