Sorry I forgot to add. I had my last surgery Sept 2011 and I had the mirena put it in January 2012.

I was on bc pills for years, it helped, have you considered or tried straight progestin? please keep trying the bc pil there are a lot to try, maybe your dosage was too high?
Lupron slams you into menopause and when your done the pain comes back, you can have permanant issues with this drug.
Hyst- it is not a cure and can come back in other areas. Last resort.
Dont give up, do you have a good doc? if not try and find an endo specialist.

I was on the Mirena when I started having pains which shortly after having the Mirena removed, found the pains were from Endo.

If you feel like you should stop the Mirena then you should. You know best what your body needs and if this doesn't work then your doctor should be able to help you find something else to try. Good luck!

Mirena can take 6-8 months to kick in..which means you can bleed for 6 -8 months straight. It can cause some extra pain in that time..it's one of those birth control methods that take awhile to kick in but it does eventually kick in!

However, I had it put in for Adenomyosis - my doctors said it won't help the Endometriosis - however it can end up stopping your periods/or make them very light! From what I've found many doctors don't tell women how bad it can be for the first 6-8 months...I've had it in 13 months now and wouldn't know it is in there. My bleeding is still present but it's spotting...but it's much better then a period and it's not as constant as it once was. I wonder how many women who took it out at 6 months or before would have had it working properly had they of waited it out....

I am on Mirena as well along with the Depo shot. I had Mirena placed in April of 2011 and just started the Depo again...I was on Depo for 5 years until I got the Mirena placed. I just got diagnosed in February of this year. My understanding from my doctors is that Mirena will stop peroids eventually (took mine a few months); however Mirena does not have any hormones in it, which is why the doc put me on Depo as well. (I must add that my surgery was in February of this year with a German doctor, and he told me that Mirena is supposed to calm the Endo down, but all of the American docs said that it does not.) They said that not having peroids will not slow the Endo down....that the Endo will happen with or without a peroid. She did say that hormones will help relieve the Endo, hence the Depo shot. I hope this helps-I am assuming the Depo will work in my case because I never even thought something was wrong with me while I was on Depo before. I really hope (if you decide to keep it in) that Mirena works, because I love it. It really stopped my peroids (except I still have spooty bleeding about every month or two, which is now super painful with this Endo crap) but it is easier than taking a pill. I am learning real quick how much of a pain this Endo stuff is-good luck with whatever you decide to do.
