The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
Hi i am looking for some advice. I am 42 and have 2 children and i have never had any trouble with my periods. About 2 months ago my period was 3 weeks late and then when it came it was very light and only lasted a day and a half. I started feeling something uncomfortable by my left ovary and feeling full and nausea and my bowel habits changed. I then started an achy left hip/groin/thigh and lower back ache. My next period was very light again and only lasted 1-2 days. I was getting various pains in my stomach and really bad wind pains and really bad diarrhea every day. I was getting stabbing pains in my ovary area when i was laying in bed. I went to my gp who said it was ibs and anxiety and gave me some tabs to try. He sent me for an ultrasound of my pelvis. I had my ultrasound a week gone friday and the sonographer said my left ovary was bigger than my right so she did the transvaginal scan to have a better a look and said i had a cyst growing on my ovary and possible endometriosis. I went back to see my gp and he was going to just re scan me in 8 weeks but then decided to send me to see a gynecologist, he didnt even mention the possible endometriosis. So i am confused now has to whats causing my symptoms is it the cyst or possible endo? I still am having bowel symptoms, mainly diarrhea and stomach pains/cramps and i gat a pain when i cough/sneeze or walk in my ovary area. I also am getting upper back pain as well and headaches and i am really tired all the time. I have felt off balance and faintish a couple of times.
Does anyone know if these symptoms are from endometriosis or with the cyst? I have looked on a few websites and the main things are period pain whereas mine is more toilet problems,fatigue,headaches and lower back/hip/groin ache.
Any advice or info would be appreciated.

Your symptoms could be anything. Endometriosis can not be diagnosed by ultrasound, it can't be seen. Endometriosis implants can not give off shadows/echo on ultrasound (abdominal/transvaginal). It may be the cyst that cause you the all these problems. Cysts come and go throughout our cycles in life and are normal. It's when they become large they become painful. Endo can also cause cysts, can also be seen in PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), other diseases)
Your GP is right in sending you to a gynecologist and starting the work up. With the faint periods, he or she may even consider early menopause. DId they do a pregnancy test? I know you must be familiar with the symptoms since you already have two children.

I can't see all my symptoms being from a cyst because it isnt even that big to cause all them.
Does a cyst cause diarrhea,fatigue,back ache etc?
the thing with endometriosis is that women have it when they first start their period or in their teen years yet go on later to get diagnosed with endo. like peppagirl said endo cannot be diagnosed with an ultrasound (both internal and external) or MRI. you have to have a laprascopic surgery in order to be correctly diagnosed. i have had tons of ultrasounds and none of them have showed endometriosis althought they can show endometriomas which are a type of cyst associated with endometriosis on the ovary which can lead to a diagnostic laprascopic surgery thus diagnosing endometriosis.its best to talk to your ob/gyn and see what those red spots could indicate. i know when i had all my symptoms my ob/gyn gave me a list of 13 things can can cause all my symptoms. they were from endometriosis to multiskelatal issues.
with the cysts i keep them all the time! this past july i had a 5cm cyst on the right ovary. i actually didnt have any symptoms of that cyst so EVERYONE is different. cyst and endo or any disorder can cause weird symptoms.

But i dont know whats going on if he says i have nothing to cause all these things. I have had m.e/cfs for 10yrs but i know and am used to all the symptoms with that, unless the cyst is making my m.e worse or flare up.
