Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.

Last night I opened presents with one of my children gone for the first time. It was so hard. Next year I will be missing my 2nd son.
My youngest seems to hate me so he will be 18 this year and not sure he will stay in the house for college like the older two did.
I see all my future Christmases stretching out to nothingness.
I already struggle with Christmas. It was always for the children and without them there is no meaning to it for me.
What do I do?

How did you spend christmas before you had children? I have to remind myself that I had a full life before I had my child....and now that she's grown and out of the house, I can still have a full life....I just need to find "me"....Ive been so busy being daughter, wife and mother...."me" got lost somewhere.

I had my first baby at 20. There wasn't much before except when I was a teenager at Christmas didn't have much meaning. I remember being little and excited by the presents. I think my problem is there wasn't much me. I got married at 17 and never learned to be an adult me. I was a child and then a mother. I agree I need to find myself I just am not sure how.

The best thing is to make friends. There is usually different groups at churches, such as single adults, etc. Or google meetups in your area. You can usually find meetups that include going to movies, exploring the city, going out to eat, etc. Meetups are just a group of people going out together and making new friends. Its time to have some finding out who you are and what you like to do. As moms we put our children first; now that they are grown, its time to focus on ourselves a little.

Christmas is hard enough for em, battling major depression, ptsd from childhood abuse but the reason I stayed alive was for my kids and now they are all grown and gone. They are sort of in the area but I don't see much of them and they are not phone callers. This Christmas was especially hard because we are having relationship issues with my daughter's husband. She came up to visit for a short time but he did not come. There is so much tension in my family now and it is eating me up. I understand what you are saying Paulinaakk1. They do seem to stretch into nothingness. The only thing that has gotten me through so far is my faith.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
